The Next Generation of Taylor Tone

Meet Taylor's redesigned, re-voiced 800 Series guitars.

Taylor guitars are some of the most innovative acoustic guitars in the world. Always improving their models, Taylor holds no design sacred. One of the most exciting refinements this year is the completely redesigned 800 series of Taylor acoustic guitars. The 800 series has long been one of Taylor's flagship lines, and it's the perfect place to roll out their latest advances in guitar construction.

Taylor 812e Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar

Taylor's rosewood/spruce 812e Grand Concert is all about articulation and intimacy. It's a fingerstyle favorite for its balanced and focused response, and makes a perfect recording guitar, as it fits well with other instruments.

The revoicing of the 800 Series has brought out extra midrange warmth in this body shape, and the new custom-gauge HD Light strings add boldness to the treble notes, with impressive volume and dynamic range for a smaller guitar.

Premium appointments include maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, and a rosewood pickguard. The guitar comes equipped with Taylor Expression System 2 electronics.

Taylor 814ce Cutaway Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar

Taylor's popular 814ce offers players the ultimate all-purpose guitar. Its balance, warmth and articulation are great for fingerstyle, it has enough punch as a strummer to front a band, and the top-end power will fuel lead runs without getting shrill. It's a great choice for a gigging player looking for one guitar that can cover it all.

The revoicing of the 800 Series has brought greater warmth, a more mature midrange, and a looser, more luxurious low end to the 814ce, thanks in part to the customized bracing and a new, custom-calibrated Elixir HD Light string-gauge set.

Premium appointments include maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, a rosewood pickguard, Taylor's new Element fretboard inlay in mother-of-pearl, a marbled fretboard, and new Expression System 2 acoustic electronics. The guitar features a Venetian cutaway and includes a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.

Taylor 816ce Cutaway Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric Guitar

The revoicing of the 800 Series has brought greater warmth, and a massive low end to the 816ce, thanks in part to the customized bracing and a new, custom-calibrated Elixir HD Light string-gauge set.

Taylor 856ce Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric 12-String

Taylor's 12-string 856ce blends power, balance and crystal-clear articulation, harnessing rosewood's full-spectrum tonal range to give players an expressive 12-string.

An ultra-playable Taylor neck and Venetian cutaway make for easy fretting into the upper register, and proprietary Expression System 2 acoustic electronics translate all the sonic detail into a rich amplified sound.

Premium appointments include maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, rosewood pickguard, mother-of-pearl Element fretboard inlay, and smoky ebony fretboard.

Taylor 816e Grand Symphony Acoustic-Electric Guitar

With a slightly bigger body shape than Taylor's Grand Auditorium, the Grand Symphony 816e yields a rich and powerful sound without sacrificing bell-like articulation.

This guitar makes a potent strummer, and dynamic fingerstylists will enjoy the thick, full-bodied character of the notes. Voicing enhancements for 2014 include richer tone with more low-end rumble.

Premium appointments include maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, a rosewood pickguard, Element fretboard inlay, smoky ebony fretboard, and Expression System 2 acoustic electronics.

Every new Taylor 800 Series guitar features:

- New Expression System 2 Electronics: Conventional under-saddle acoustic guitar pickups can sound thin and brittle. Taylor's new ES2 system places three pickup sensors just behind the guitar's saddle, barely making contact with it, to capture the saddle's natural back-and-forth range of motion. Three tiny Allen screws calibrate the pressure of the sensors against the saddle. This new positioning enables the piezo crystals to respond more naturally to the guitar's energy.

- New Advanced Performance Bracing: From the large-bodied Grand Symphony and Grand Auditorium models to the parlor-sized Grand Concert, each 800 series guitar's bracing pattern is designed to maximize volume and tone for its specific body shape. No matter which 800 series guitar you pick, it will sound larger than life.

- Dynamic Wood Thickness: Every body shape within the 800 series has a specific wood thickness, helping create the largest and loudest acoustic sound possible from the body's available area. The smaller body designs, such as the Taylor 812e, have thinner top, back and side wood to maximize volume and resonance.

- Protein Glue: Protein glue is very expensive -- and most guitar makers avoid using it. But Taylor's 800 series doesn't cut corners on materials. As protein glue ages, it actually bonds the wood together, enhancing resonance. This allows the entire body of the guitar to sing -- and allows the guitar to mature into an unbelievable tone machine.

- Thin Finish: The finish on the 800 series Taylors is one of the thinnest finishes you will find on any acoustic guitar. At a mere 3.5 mils (that's 3.5 thousandths of an inch) thin, the finish allows the guitar's wood to truly sing and resonate without being bogged down by a heavy coat of finish. Remember, the finish makes the guitar look pretty, but drastically reduces the amount of wood vibration. Less vibration = less tone.

- Updated Design Aesthetics: A slew of stunning appointments sets the 800 series apart. Updates include the rosewood pickguard, with grain orientation in the direction of the picking stroke; 'Element' fingerboard inlay, pale maple binding with back strip, rosewood trim on top and around the abalone rosette, and Taylor nickel hardware.
