The Zoom R series was designed to give musicians a portable recording command center that doubles as a digital audio interface for either Mac or PC. Using SDHC/SD memory cards for storage, every recorder in the R series features multiple channels of simultaneous recording, playback, and control for optimal musical blend, balance, and precision. The R8 is a lite version of the R24, operating in the same 4 major capacities, as a recorder, interface controller, and as a sampler, but with reduced functionality. However, the R8 is lighter and less expensive than either the R16 and R24 and is simple to learn, perfect for those who like to plug-and-play.

The R8 provides you with two channels of simultaneous recordings--capable of running on phantom power. Eight channels of playback allow you to easily monitor and quickly blend your recording directly from the console.

The SDHC/SD cards help to facilitate the recording process. Each 32GB card can hold up to 100 hours of track recording. These cards can be easily swapped out, stored, and backed-up on USB memory sticks and other memory devices for excellent memory security. The R8 comes standard with a 2 GB card.

The R8 is also an incredibly versatile and user-friendly audio interface. With the convenient USB plug, the R8 can be attached to most computers or laptops. It comes equipped with Cubase LE but can run most standard DAW software. The simultaneous 2-in/2-out capacity allows the recording of 24-bit/96kHz audio recording. If the sampling rate is 44.1kHz, the internal DSP effects of the 8 can be added to the computer tracks. Dedicated controls let the R8 balance the DAW playback and the source sound for precise EQ levels.

As well, the R8 is designed to be a simple but effective controller, allowing you to easily adjust the blends and balances when mixing down your latest recording on your favorite DAW software.

Like the R24, the R8 can loop audio data making sampling and looping tracks for recording easy. You can use the touch-sensitive drum pads, with 10 different kit sound models, to build and store up to 511 of your own beats or you can choose from the 500 MB of preprogrammed drum loops from Big Fish Audio.

Additionally, the R8 is a powerful and versatile effects engine. Equipped with over 146 types of DSP effects and 370 patches, your FX options are nearly limitless. Seven insert modules include effects for guitars, basses, vocals, and other various instrumental and special sounds. One insert effect and two send-return effects may be used at the same time. Total, the R8 comes with 18 guitar amp models and 6 bass amp models. Further, the R8 comes with a tuner and metronome to help you stay on pitch and in time.
