You have the choice to record in standard or high definition depending on your needs. The Q3HD is capable of recording in either 720p or crystal clear 1080p for artists looking to produce brilliant and beautiful videos. However, if file size and recording length are more pressing issues than visual transparency, either of two standard definition modes may be selected. Depending on the audio settings and your memory card size--the Q3HD runs on either 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32 GB cards--the Q3HD is capable of capturing anywhere from 43 minutes to almost 17 hours of video when set to standard definition.

Three lighting settings, Auto, Concert Lighting, and Night help to optimize the quality of your video recordings. The Auto lighting feature is the default setting and appropriate for most uses. The Concert Lighting setting is a more dynamic choice, preparing the Q3HD for drastic changes in stage lighting and blackouts. Select the Night setting when light levels are low.

The Q3HD also comes equipped with a zoom feature capable of recording at 4x magnification.

Continuing this parade of video features, the Q3HD comes equipped with a handy on-the-go viewing function, just hold the camera sideways and it instantly becomes a video player.

Still, perhaps the most enticing aspect of the Q3HD is its sound quality. Built with the same microphones as the venerable Zoom H4n Handy Recorder, the Q3HD records in crisp surround sound on a cleanly defined 120 X/Y pattern. This pattern helps to reduce lag and creates a sense of depth to the recording that is always lacking in cheaper devices.

The Q3HD can record audio in either PCM or AAC. Again, when quality is on your mind, you can select PCM (WAV format) at either 24bit / 96kHz or 16bit / 44.1kHz to capture stellar high definition digital sound; or you can choose AAC (m4a format) at 192kbps for a less defined but still incredible analog sound, perfect for when you're messing around or concerned about recording length and battery life.

For higher quality audio tracks, the Q3HD displays a meter that indicates your audio levels, helping you to monitor your sessions and find the balance you want. Gain controls allow you to choose between high or low, or you can set it to Auto level and have the Q3HD set the correct gain levels for your recording environment.

But the features don't stop there. The Zoom Q3HD comes with an almost embarrassing number of jacks, plug-ins, plug-outs, and control interfaces that make it extremely simple to use to maximum effect. The Q3HD has a USB 2.0 attachment that makes video editing easy. Plug the device directly into your computer and quickly add effects to your videos with either the included HandyShare program or your preferred editing software. The Q3HD also boasts an HDMI plug, so you can connect your recorder directly to an HD TV for immediate viewing capabilities. The 2.4 inch LCD screen makes selecting your features and paging through menus fast and easy.

The Zoom Q3HD runs on AA batteries that provide up to two hours of continuous video recording or four hours of continuous audio recording before they must be changed.
