This thing is handy as heck. The sound quality is phenomenal. The video quality leaves a lot to be desired, at least in true concert hall lightning scenarios. I wasn't expecting pro quality video, but I was hoping for a bit better. That said, if the lightning was right, I believe this thing would do a commendable job at video too. The controls are adequate at best. For someone with big fingers, you're going to do a lot of back peddling to get to where it is you really wanted to go. It's nice to have everything in one centrally located area, especially in the dark, but the rocker-type controls aren't very forgiving. If you try to go right, you'll go either up or down. Press to the left and you have the same issue. When you get to the menu item you want to adjust settings for and press the middle button, it's so small you end up pressing the outer arrow buttons again. For someone with small fingers this might not be a problem, I'm not sure. I think they might have been better served if they had a dedicated button for each position to travel (up, down, left, right). Other than that, the only drawback is the battery life. I've read that the thing eats up batteries when used for any length of time, so I was prepared. When shooting a few performances one evening, I got less than 2 hours of use out of brand new AA batteries. That was with actually only recording about 90 minutes, the rest of the time I was toying with the settings. Regardless, I was prepared and switched them read more out. Having used it 3 other times after that, the brand new AA's all had similar life spans, so I'm sure you can expect the same. Luckily they're cheap and available everywhere. The AC adapter may be a wise choice for someone considering to use it for extended amounts of time. I have a 64 GB sdxc card in mine so space was a non-issue, but to give an idea about space requirements; recording at 320kbs AAC and 720-30HD for about 21 minutes took up a 1.30 GB chunk out of the card. These settings are in the high range for the Q2HD's capabilities, but still aren't the max. Expect to get more of a chunk taken out if you max out to 1080p and PCM settings. Overall I'm very happy with the unit. It's nice being able to record shows and not have to rely on YouTube for them. Speaking of which the videos upload to YT perfectly each and every time with no syncing issues. Great little workhorse for the money, even more so if my fingers were smaller.
