Product Description

Perfect for families, piano teachers, or as a top-quality practice instrument in a home or school setting, the Yamaha Arius YPD-142 digital piano provides uncompromising grand piano sound with a graded hammer action keybed. Complete with sturdy music stand, power adapter, built-in 3-pedal unit, and a comfortable padded bench, this Arius has a built-in 12-watt speaker system for room-filling sound and dual headphone jacks for those late-night practice sessions. With a beautiful wood-finish cabinet, this exquisite instrument is stunning in both looks and sound.

The Feel of a Piano-Building Tradition

Yamaha has been building acoustic grand pianos for over 100 years, and you can bet that their digital pianos benefit from the experience. The first place you'll notice the Arius' noble pedigree is in Yamaha's Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard. It recreates the weight, movement and natural resistance of an acoustic piano's mechanical keys -- but that's not all. A piano's hammers, the elements that actually strike the strings, become larger as you move from the right, treble side of the keyboard to the left, bass side. This means that the low notes require a heavier touch, while the high notes respond to a lighter touch. A graded keyboard is a must-have for professionals, and crucial for students to develop proper playing technique. While maintaining the gradation, the entire keyboard's touch-sensitivity is adjustable to hard, medium, or soft to match a student's strength.

The YDP-142 also includes 3 piano-style foot pedals, with half-pedal control that varies the piano's sustain length, depending on how far the sustain pedal is pressed. Most digital pianos only offer an on/off damper function, but the YDP-142 recreates the subtleties of a partially engaged damper, for playing techniques once only possible on an acoustic instrument.

The Sound of an Acoustic Piano

Yamaha knows how a piano is supposed to feel, but more importantly, they know how it's supposed to sound. The Arius YDP-142's PureCF sound engine recreates the nuanced sound of Yamaha's renowned CFIIIS 9-foot concert grand piano. Each note on the YDP-142's keyboard was recorded at multiple volumes and playing styles, so that softer notes don't just sound quieter, they sound gentler. Likewise, louder notes don't just have more volume; they have more force and presence. Ten powerful voices including three stereo-sampled grand piano sounds, two electric pianos, a harpsichord, two organs, a vibraphone, and a full string ensemble are recreated in detail by the YDP-142's 12-watt stereo speaker system. Simply plug in headphones under the front panel to practice late at night without disturbing neighbors. It's even possible to layer two sounds (strings and grand piano, for example), or add reverb for a sense of space and dimension to the Arius' rich sound.

Yamaha added the Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) function, where the sound quality of the YDP-142 is automatically adjusted according to the overall volume. Even when you set the volume low, the IAC allows you to hear both low sounds and high sounds with clarity.

High-Tech Tools for Teachers and Students

The metronome is the most fundamental of practice aids, and the Arius YDP-142 has one on board, with tempo adjustable from 32 to 280 beats per minute and six time signatures. Meanwhile, the two-track digital song recorder lets students hear their own performances -- a huge incentive for self-improvement. Using the included "50 Greats for the Piano" music book, students can play along with one of 50 pre-loaded songs. Also useful for students: pitch transposition. If you're accompanying a singer or playing along with a recording in a challenging key, you can shift the entire keyboard up or down 6 semitones. It's also possible to fine-tune the pitch of the entire instrument from A=427 to 453 -- useful for playing along in tune with any recording, or playing a four-hands, two-piano duet with an acoustic piano. Of course, as a digital instrument, the Arius never requires the services of a piano tuner!

Features:

- PureCF sampling recreates the sound of an acoustic instrument from pianissimo to fortissimo
- Graded Hammer Standard keyboard provides natural grand-piano playability with graded key weight throughout the keyboard range
- 128-note polyphony
- Music stand, comfortable padded bench, power adapter, and "50 Greats for the Piano" music book included

- 2 headphone jacks for rehearsing with a student or duet partner
- Room-filling 12-watt stereo speaker system

It's the perfect instrument for piano students, professional musicians, and piano lovers of all stripes.

Product Description

The Yamaha YDP-142 delivers authentic piano tone and feel with the pure CF sound engine voices and the GHS keyboard. Yamaha recorded the CFIIIS 9-foot concert grand piano for expressive playing while realizing your piano potential. Pianists enjoy the graded hammer action which makes the transition to playing an acoustic piano a breeze.

The Arius YDP142 features Damper Resonance which digitally recreates acoustic piano depth when pedaling, while Yamaha's exclusive Intelligent Acoustic Control ensures a full, balanced tone at any volume. The Arius YDP142's 42 inch cabinet lends a classic piano look to any home interior.

Piano quality only possible from Yamaha

PureCF sampling starts with a meticulous recording of Yamaha's acclaimed CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano. This recording contains a number of dynamic levels from pianissimo to fortissimo, so you can experience the delicate touch of a soft passage or the pure power of two-handed chords.

Authentic to the touch

A weighted action with heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end is just like the hammers inside an acoustic piano. Great for the aspiring pianist, practicing on the GHS action builds the proper finger technique for when the time comes to perform on an acoustic piano. To make the YDP-142 be your favorite, you can select touch sensitivity from 3 types - hard, medium, or soft - depending on your finger strength or playing style. You can play with your favorite keyboard setting which matches to you.

Smooth, continuous pedaling

Continuous or half-damper pedal control provides detailed nuance and subtlety experienced when pedaling on a grand piano. This is done by allowing continuously increasing amounts of note sustain, from slight to full, as you depress the sustain pedal deeper.

True sound that resonates

Damper Resonance digitally reproduces the sympathetic interaction between strings on acoustic pianos. When the damper pedal is used in a performance, the harmonics of other strings wash over the notes you play until the pedal is released.

Optimal tone at any volume level

The Acoustic Optimizer is a unique Yamaha technology. Using a special design and position within the instrument, the Acoustic Optimizer physically adjusts the acoustical flow, which controls resonances and enriches the overall sound. The combination of Acoustic Optimizer and digital technologies provides an incredibly expressive capability.

Capture your performance

The built-in, 2-track song recorder is a great way to capture a performance and play it back to hear your progress. You can also record the right and left hands separately for hands-separate practicing at any tempo you're comfortable with. Now you can practice one hand, while song recorder plays the other.

Discover an inspiring combination

Combine two Voices together, like piano and strings, for an inspiring playing experience. Nothing livens up piano practice like playing a piece with a different sound, and combining two sounds together takes that creativity a step further.

Ready to play, side-by-side

Up to two people can enjoy playing the piano together in total privacy. Practice as much as you need before unplugging the headphones to let others hear your progress.

A piano with its own repertoire

50 classic piano songs are provided in the built-in song memory and also as a music book, 50 Greats for the Piano. Learn how to play these pieces at your own pace either one hand at a time or at a reduced tempo. Or just listen to the songs as background music.

The power to play more

Provides enough horsepower for dropout-free performances even while layering two Voices and playing two-handed, sustained chords with heavy pedaling. So as you become a more advanced player, your digital piano can respond to your skill level.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "Very happy with purchase"
Overall: I ordered a B-Stock blemished Yamaha YDP-142 Digital Piano. I loved the deeply discounted price, but I was worried about the condition. I decided to take a chance since they did offer a money back guarantee. It arrived in less than one week. I has very busy when it did arrive and I wasn't able to even open the box and inspect it until a week later. I brought it into the house and started assembling the piano. The packaging seemed untouched and brand new minus the top piece of Styrofoam. I got it all together and I had to search for the blemish. On the right side on the very edge of the piano there was a small dent. So small that it would have been pointless for me to take a picture to show any one because it wouldn't be visible. I was very happy!!!!Now on to the piano. It plays very well. Defintely not top of the line, but it works for me. I have been playing piano for almost 20 years. I was without a piano for almost 7 years, I never stopped playing but it was very infrequent. I finally got an acoustic piano about 2 years ago and recently started back up with lessons. I have young kids who love to sleep. My youngest comes to us at 8:00pm with his blanket and sippy cup and beg to be put to bed. While this is great as a parent, as a busy husband and father most of my free time to practice was late at night after the kids were in bed. With an acousitc piano night time practiing was out of the question. It took some convincing to make my wife understand why I needed two pianos. She still doesn't completely understand but she's great and let me keep them both. This piano fits my needs perfectly. I can throw the headphones on and practice to my hearts content. With headphones the sound is great. The Polyphony is more than enough and I'm not concerned with the limited voices. I'm using is just for practice. The keys are a little loud when playing without headphones and the built in speakers are on the same level as the speakers in my kids fisher price piano. If you are planning to use it for an audience I would recommend having an external powered speaker of some sort. All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase. I don't feel like it could ever replace my acoustic but its a good tool to have for practice.

Overall: I bought this for my fiance. When I met her, she originally sold her own piano to make the move cross country to be with me. I decided on the Yamaha after hearing demos of it on YouTube. It's a good value for the money and I'm glad I purchased it, as my fiance loves it!
