Yamaha DXR10 Powered Speaker (1x10")

No longer available at zZounds
Pumping out 131 dB SPL, the Yamaha DXR10 powered PA speaker has a built-in mixer with jacks for an XLR microphone, two 1/4" inputs, and stereo RCA inputs.

The Yamaha DXR10 is a compact powered speaker in the DXR line, with a 10-inch low frequency transducer and a 1.4-inch throat compression driver. Both speaker drivers are specially designed by Yamaha and utilize ferrite magnets. The DXR10 delivers 1100 watts of output power, with a frequency response of 56 Hz - 20 kHz. The DXR10 has tight bass definition, but doesn't move quite as much low-end air as the DXR12 or DXR15. This makes these compact speakers perfect for vocals, guitars or keyboards in a full-range setup, or awesome as personal onstage monitors.

Versatile I/O For Solo Use or in Series

Every Yamaha DXR powered speaker has 1 x Mic/Line balanced XLR input with a 10 dB pad. There is also 1 x XLR Thru jack. The 2 x stereo 1/4-inch line level jacks have their own 10 dB pad. After these, there is a 3rd input section that has stereo RCA jacks inputs with yet one more 10 dB pad. There is also a Link Out male XLR port that can be switched between Mono and Stereo modes.

FIR-X Tuning Keeps Speakers Sounding Great

All DXR powered speakers are preloaded with Yamaha's unique FIR-X tuning. This uses linear phase FIR filters for the crossover network. FIR-X tuning simultaneously optimizes frequency and phase response, and monitors time alignment between the two transducers. This was Yamaha's solution for obtaining maximally clear response around the crossover point, providing what many feel to be a better clarity and sound imaging than what other speakers can manage. A read more 48-bit high-performance processor onboard allows the DXRs to perform their monitoring continuously and invisibly. All DXRs use high-precision 24-bit A/D and D/A converters.

Handy D-CONTOUR Feature for Gigging Musicians

A switch on the rear panel allows you to activate the D-CONTOUR feature on the DXRs. This is an active multi-band compressor that helps yield even more powerful and consistent sound at any dynamic level. It works by continually monitoring the output of multiple frequency bands, and calculating the optimum adjustments to be made to each range. The D-CONTOUR comes with two handy presets that help you get a good tone faster: the FOH/ MAIN mode and the MONITOR mode. FOH/MAIN mode boosts low-frequency to compensate for low-end that is lacking when you are using a full-range setup without a separate subwoofer. MONITOR mode is an optimized preset for floor monitor application, that pulls back on the low-frequencies that create boxy sound reflections.

Ruggedly Built and Ready for Any Situation

The DXR powered speakers are made from rugged, non-resonant ABS enclosures with no audible vibrations even at the highest output levels. They are fit with heavy-duty steel grilles and ergonomic aluminum handles. The DXR's pole mount socket offers a second mounting position with a 7-degree downward tilt, allowing you to angle the speakers down from the stage toward the audience, rather than over their heads.

While I do own a trailer full of great PA gear, I didn't buy my DXR10 to use as a part of that system. I bought this speaker to use on stage with both a Line 6 POD HD500 (now an HD500X) and an Eleven Rack. All the reviews I've read on the DXR10 prompted me to buy it over other simular products, specifically the QSC K10 (still an amazing speaker at a higher price point) and the JBL EON510. The DXR allows me to run both units into the speaker and mix them if I want, although I don't mix them. I've practiced with it the last week and last night used it with my band for the first time. It was punchy and crystal clear and has more power than I could ever imagine using. I ORDERED ANOTHER ONE THIS MORNING. I read a lot of articles and blogs about the best way to use amp modelers like the Line 6 POD, Eleven Rack, Zoom G5, Vox ToneLab and others live. Active sseakers are certainly not the only solution, but if you're going that route the Yamaha DXR10 is a great choice.
