This acoustic-electric guitar from Yamaha is an affordable, excellent choice for beginners.

The Yamaha APX series places emphasis on playability with a stylish thin profile that fits the musicians' body. As for cosmetics, the Yamaha APX500 features a beautiful mother-of-pearl sound hole ring inlay, white fingerboard binding, white/black body binding, mother-of-pearl APX & Yamaha headstock logos and position markers.

The APX500 also features a revamped version of the tried and true System55T. Inheriting the basic specifications from APX500, the Yamaha 500II offers a recently developed Yamaha original preamp/piezo pickup. This pickup is an under-saddle type, yet the piezo element is individually placed for each string in order to catch more accurate sound information.

Preamp Systems (System55T)

This is a tuner-equipped version of System55. The chromatic tuner is accurate, easy to use and easy to view. You can use the tuning mode by pressing a single button even if you have no cable connected. Turning the tuner on or off will not affect the output in any way. The tuner also comes with a one-minute auto-off timer to save battery power.

Bracing

Scalloped X-type bracing design. Delivers a well-balanced sound when played acoustically. Oval sound-hole offers thicker middle highs that are unique to the APX sound.

This is the first guitar I've ever ordered online, and my first order from zzounds. It arrived Fedex, on time and un-damaged. Fit and finish was perfect after looking it over thoroughly. Action was acceptable, fretwork was very good.
Sound
Acoustically It has a very flat response with just a little brightness on the highs. Not overly loud or boomy, but doesn't sound cheap like alot of thin-bodied guitars. Perfect for vocal accompaniment. Plugged in this guitar is amazing. Best I've heard in an acoustic electric. You have to hear it to believe it.
Features
Tuning machines hold it in tune, the onboard tuner works really well. The body shape is very comfortable to hold and play. The only thing I'd like to change is that the saddle isn't compensated, and I'd like it to be...
Ease of Use
Very easy to play both plugged in, and acoustically. After slightly dropping the action the guitar is butter.
Quality
Made in Indonesia, but does seem to be made well. Nothing is loose or obviously wrong with it. Seems like it should last as well as any acoustic guitar should.
Value
Good bang for your buck... Would be nice if it came with a gig-bag or case for the price.
Manufacturer Support
Havent needed it.
