Warm Audio WA76 Limiting Amplifier Discrete Compressor

Get that signature mega-fast attack. Warm Audio's modern take on the 1176 compressor, the WA76's discrete signal path features USA-made CineMag transformers.

You can tell just by looking at the front panel that the Warm Audio WA76 Limiting Amplifier is a modern homage to the classic UA 1176 Revision D compressor. This solid-state compressor utilizes US-made CineMag input and output transformers, and gives your signal a clean discrete path with some serious control. With tight attack/release settings, 55 dB of gain, an input impedance of 600 ohms, a clear and easy-to-read meter that provides dB gain reduction and dB output levels, and a 23 dB pad switch on the back, your WA76 Discrete Compressor is ready to upgrade your studio with top-tier character at an affordable price.

Based On the Classic 1176 Revision D

In the late '60s, the 1176 was the first of its kind as a top-notch limiter, and much attention went into the design of your WA76 Discrete Compressor to make this affordable revamp like the original. Employing USA-made CineMag input and output transformers, your WA76 gives you a pristine discrete signal path with lightning-fast response. Whether you want to slam your sound to the max or add just a subtle taste of compression, this compressor has the touch you're looking for.

Oh yes, and the WA76 supports the infamous "all buttons in" mode -- just in case you're going for a little extra distortion on guitars, or that delayed response to transients that can yield a super-punchy drum track.

Simple, Easy-to-Use Panel Layout

Your WA76 compressor's front panel has a simple layout without any unnecessary flair -- just as read more you might hope from an 1176 clone. You have your input and output controls, and your attack and your release. Your attack time spans from 20 microseconds to 800 microseconds, and your release time covers 50 milliseconds to 1 second. This gives you a serious amount of control over how your compression kicks in, allowing you to get nice lightning-fast compression when you want it.

A Compressor for Any Source

Perhaps the best thing about your WA76 Discrete Compressor is its universal applicability. Kick, snare, toms, vocals, guitar, bass -- you name it, your WA76 has got you covered. Of course, this baby has a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, so there's nothing too elusive for this pristine machine to capture. Since this compressor is such a steal, you might just want two of them for stereo compression for your keys, drum overheads, or room microphones.

With the WA76, Warm Audio puts an 1176 clone in your rack at an affordable price.

Warm Audio WA76 Discrete Compressor

The Warm Audio WA76 Limiting Amplifier is a modern reproduction of the Classic 1176 Revision D. Every effort was made to remain faithful to the original designs including the use of Reichenbach Engineering's (now CineMag) transformer designs that were used in the original. The classic 1176 was a major breakthrough in limiter technology -- the first true peak limiter with all transistor circuitry offering superior performance with a signature sound - and set the standard for all limiters to follow. The ultra-fast attack time and trademark sound have lured legendary artists and studio moguls alike to the 1176 - Peter Frampton, Joe Satriani, Joe Chiccarelli, Vance Powell, and Mike Elizondo are just a few names on a list that's continued to grow, for nearly 50 years.

Features:

- True to the Classic 1176 compressor in design and performance
- Completely discrete signal path
- Modeled after the D revision
- Utilizes USA made CINEMAG input and output transformers
- Supports the famous "all buttons in" ratio setting
- Ultra fast attack time
- Class A line level output amplifier

Really great unit. have used it on vocals and acoustic guitar for tracking. adds that classic sound, acts just fast enough, and super versatile. used it to process some stems in a mix, and was great for keys and bass. even at 8:1 it was very smooth, not killing transients, and feeling really natural. I need another one! just recommended it to my students in the recording arts classes I teach. cant wait to bring it in and share. great work. accidentally put 3 stars for support, I haven't had to deal with them yet, its working great.
