Wampler Velvet Fuzz Pedal

Big or tight, dark or bright? Get your fuzz on any way you like it with this Wampler pedal, which has a Brightness knob to get you fuzzed out just right.

Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, and David Gilmour...the intriguing sonic span from these guitarists is what Brian Wampler had in mind with the Wampler Velvet Fuzz pedal. Picture this pedal as a dynamic EL34-tube-infused stack of potent tone perfect for gripping leads and wailing licks, and then let your axe do the rest of the talking. This baby is equipped with volume, fuzz, and brightness controls for you to roll in a wide range of sound from a beefy fuzz to a riveting overdrive/distortion that'll be sure to steal ears from afar. A Big/Tight toggle switch in the middle gives you two overall settings to play around with, to get your preferred style of fuzz for the occasion.

Brian Wampler demonstrates the classic fuzz the Velvet Fuzz can deliver:

Dials and Controls

Your Velvet Fuzz pedal features three simple controls to dial in the amount of fuzz, distortion, or overdrive to fuel your signal. The volume control manages your signal's decibel level, and the brightness knob helps you control the bite or mellowness of your output. The fuzz knob acts like a gain control to dial in the amount of breakup you're looking for. These three simple controls allow for a wide span of tonal exploration that'll keep your ears hungry for more fuzz, performance after performance.

Voicing Switch: Go Big or Go Tight

In the middle of your Wampler Velvet Fuzz pedal is a toggle switch with two universal voicing settings: Big or Tight. When the toggle switch is flipped up in the Big position, read more your signal tends to have a beefier, spongier tonal contour, emphasizing those lower frequencies with plenty of compression for that classic saturated fuzz. When you flip this switch down into the Tight position, you get a more dynamic, less compressed effect with tube-amp-like distortion that lets your axe's tone come through more -- great for those times when you might want to roll back on the fuzz. This toggle switch gives this pedal twice as much tonal reach, resulting in more gig-worthy sounds.

Handmade True Bypass Circuitry

The Velvet Fuzz was hand-built using choice film capacitors and resistors to give your signal as much love as it deserves. Brian Wampler's keenness for accurate tone rings true though this powerful fuzz pedal with every note you play. Your Velvet Fuzz pedal utilizes true bypass circuitry, so your tone remains completely untouched when you power this baby down in your signal chain.

Wampler Velvet Fuzz Pedal

Sometimes, it's not about chasing a tone from one specific piece of equipment, it's about capturing the tones from the entire signal chain. Looking back through history, there have been some truly outstanding fuzz tones. In particular, the tones achieved by running a fuzz into a screaming stack. The kind of tones that are just earth shattering in their depth, aggression and smoothness.

Brian Wampler, who's always looking for the best tones to capture, decided the chase was on. Taking the base tones from a very famous pedal and the characteristics of a famous stacked, EL34 driven, amp - decided it was about time those tones were brought together in pedal format.

If you are a fan of the tones of the players like David Gilmour or Eric Johnson, then the Velvet Fuzz is the pedal you are looking for.

The key to the tone of the Velvet is the voicing switch. In the "big" position, the pedal reacts like a classic fuzz. With loads of internal compression and truly massive sound, it really is that tone from that era. Dropping the volume back cleans it up perfectly so your rhythm can remain clear enough and then your solos will flatten all those who dare to stand before you.

In the "tight" position, the tone comes in and you get the feeling you have swapped amps as well, those mammoth tones but without the compression and other traits that many fuzz players love... Yes, that's right. If you love the tone of Fuzz but not the reaction of it, choose this setting.

Features:

- Hand made in the U.S.A.
- High grade film capacitors and resistors picked for their superior sound and response
- Completely true bypass
- Battery connection and 9v power jack (barrel plug like Boss)
- Power draw: 23mA
- Completely original design
- Switchable between two completely independent clipping circuits, pure fuzz or a fuzz like distortion
- Transistors are hand selected for superior tone and response

I wanted a distortion pallet on my pedalboard, so I bought 1. a Boss Blues Driver (a good tasty overdrive, producing sound ranging from Neil Young to Aerosmith Rocks album), and 2. a Dunlop MXR 75 "Super Badass" distortion box (twice the price of a Boss distortion box, but so worth it. You can get a Van Halen or even ZZ Top sound from that one). Now, those two boxes were solid choices made after much research, and I should have been done there, but for some reason I went back and bought also this Wampler Velvet Fuzz pedal..and, wow...just wow! THIS makes my solid state amp sound like a tube head. It's BEAUTIFUL. It's well worth the money. Put it this way, you can get a Boss distortion unit for fifty bucks, and it'll sound synthetic and cheezy, like you should expect for spending that little. Or you can shell out the $200 for a Wampler Velvet Fuzz and own solid professional equipment that makes you happy every time you use it. If I could go back and buy just one box, it would be the Wampler Velvet Fuzz, hands down. It sounds amazing, like a tube head, and it adds sustain all day. It's my go to distortion-overdrive box now. So if money matters to you, and you don't want to end up buying more boxes than you'll actually end up using, I suggest listen to the youtube on this page, the Wampler Velvet Fuzz box I received actually sounds like that!!! (I'm running it through a Marshall solid state head, which is a poor man's Marshall, yes, no tubes, but this adds the tubes and makes me read more sound like a rock star (plus girls want to do things for me now like make me a sandwich and run a load of laundry and, oops, well what did you think i was gonna' say? BUY THIS! :D ..oh, I always go too far! *hook comes, and yoinks commenter off the page* (By the way, the guy, who makes these boxes (you can see him in the video), he frequents one of the major music discussion forums (sorry, I don't recall which one. Maybe The Gear Page?) But he's accessible, a real guy, and obviously brilliant at making boxes. Well he offers a full line of them, so look around, if you don't love the sound in the video here, if that isn't quite what you're looking for, see more of his boxes here: http://www.zzounds.com/cat--Wampler--4338
