Wampler Plexi-Drive British Overdrive Pedal

No longer available at zZounds
Get that vintage British crunch from the Wampler Plexi-Drive. This overdrive pedal includes a bass control to help emulate the sound of a fat 4x12 cabinet.

Plug into the Wampler Plexi-Drive British overdrive pedal and add some irresistible British-sounding plexi tone to your game. This rugged yet compact overdrive pedal fuels your axe's signal with a simple volume, gain, and tone control setup, while a bass switch provides your sound with some sweet and surprisingly accurate 4 x 12" cab contour. This pedal is built tough for the road and won't eat up much space if you have a busy pedalboard, and handmade, completely true-bypass circuitry keeps your signal pristine when you switch this baby off.

Simple Three-Dial Control Setup

Your Wampler Plexi-Drive British overdrive pedal provides three control dials to craft your signal's breakup: volume, gain, and tone. The volume control determines your output level, your gain control brings in the overdrive, and your tone control colors your output with brightness or darkness. The gain control on this baby provides you plenty of dynamic overdrive to play around with. This pedal's JFET circuitry does an outstanding job of emulating the tube gain and response of a vintage plexi amplifier.

Bass Switch for Big Cab Sound

Right between your gain and volume controls is a bass switch. When this switch is engaged, your Plexi-Drive British overdrive pedal imitates a powerful 4 x 12" stack, fueling your signal with plenty of bottom end that gets pretty interesting when you play at very low levels. This pedal was designed to sound like a cross between a Marshall 18 and a JTM45. If the low end is read more too much, your tone control allows you to brighten things up a little so your signal cuts through the way you want it to.

Handmade True-Bypass Circuitry

As you'd expect from Wampler, this pedal is handmade using choice film capacitors and resistors, so your signal gets plenty of love and careful attention as it makes its way to your amplifier. A true-bypass configuration keeps your axe's original character completely unaltered when you power down your Wampler Plexi-Drive during your performance.

Rugged Chassis Built for the Road

This baby is tough and will hold up well to the rugged atmosphere of the regularly gigging musician. A sleek and durable outer chassis protects all of your Plexi-Drive's inner circuitry from dirt, dust, and sweat. A compact size makes this baddie pedalboard-friendly. You'll find it's quite a bit easier to carry around than a vintage amp stack!

Wampler Plexi-Drive Overdrive Pedal

Wampler Pedals, being the electronics tinkerers that they are, set off to design a pedal that would get "Marshall" tones out of any run-of-the-mill amp. After many long nights of bread-boarding, tweaking, and tweaking some more, they finally came up with it: The Wampler Plexi-Drive pedal that absolutely nails that "JTM45" tone like none other.

Wampler Pedals designed it to sound sort of like a cross between a "Marshall 18" and a "JTM45", and those who have purchased the Plexi-Drive agree that it's very accurate! The bass boost toggle switch adds fat, full bottom end which is very useful in lower gain or lower volume (bedroom practicing) applications. For band volumes, cutting the bass out a bit really helps the tone cut through perfectly.

Features:

- High grade film capacitors and resistors picked for their superior sound and response
- Completely true bypass
- Battery connection and 9v power jack (barrel plug like Boss)
- Jfet circuitry mimics tube gain, response, and sound of an old plexi
- 3 Knobs: tone, volume, and gain
- 1 toggle switch adds in a bit of bottom end for best 'bedroom sound'
- 2.5 x 4.5 in.
- Plenty of volume potential if you need it

The message I wrote to Wampler after getting this pedal says it all. This pedal has Malcolm, Angus, and VH1 tone for days. I'm very pleased...----Letter Text-----I just wanted to say Thank You. I have been looking for an OD/Distortion boxthat i can run into a clean amp to get that "dirty tone in my head" formonths. I've literally tried over a dozen pedals across all price ranges. Ijust wanted something that was dynamic and sounded like a good old Marshall with a nice bite. Not some buzzy DSL sounding thingy, or some uber scoopedthrash thing, or some smooth squishy blues or tweed thing. I had basicallygiven up, thinking that no "pedal" was going to sound like the "amp" tone Iwas after. After reading the descriptions on all of the various Wamplerpedals, I decided to try the Plexidrive. I'm an anal retentive tone snoband an old Electrical Engineeer to boot. I read the comments about Brianslaving over his breadboard, and it still being one of his favorite pedalsto date. I thought,...maybe...just maybe...here's a guy who's tone tastessimilar to mine, so I took a chance and I ordered one from zZounds.com. I got it, and I prepared myself to be be disappointed as usual. On every pedal I'vetried so far I've either known in 10 seconds it wasn't even close, or I'vediddled knobs for 10 minutes and couldn't quite get it there. Imagine myabsolute shock when I plugged in the Plexidrive, set the knobs all at 12 andhit the first "A" chord. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!! No way...It blew mymind. I read more took another 10 seconds to tweak the tone knob back a tad andbalance the bypassed and "on" levels and I was THERE. THE best rock tone Ihad EVER gotten out of my grab n go rig. I then played with the volume knob on my guitar, and it cleaned things up nicely...awesome. I cannot tell you howpleased I am to FINALLY find a pedal that works for me. Thank you, thankyou, THANK YOU for your tone obsession. I'm glad I didn't give up. Thispedal is the shiznit for me.------End of Letter Text---------Let me just add that the folks at zZounds have been EXTREMELY easy to work with. Lord knows how many pedals I've bought and returned during this process. NEVER had a single issues with zZounds. Speedy shipments, easy no hassle returns, and price beating. zZounds.com remains my preferred internet music dealer.
