Perfect for the bassist on a budget, this electric bass from Tobias has a rosewood fingerboard and ergonomic body shape.

Epiphone is proud to reintroduce a classic bass that players have been waiting for: the Toby Standard-IV. With its roots in the original designs of Michael Tobias introduced over 20 years ago, the "Toby" brought real innovation and affordability to bassists hungry for something that reflected modern playing styles. And now, Epiphone and Tobias team up to bring back this classic design, once again putting cutting-edge sounds and designs in the hands of all musicians.

Classic Body Shape

The Toby Standard-IV features the classic Tobias ergonomic body shape that players find so easy to play, providing a focused, 'finished' sound that has all the punch of an upright with all the clear detail of an electric. Whether you're in your garage or on a stage, the Toby Standard-IV is so balanced from 'note one' that both live and studio engineers have little to do but sit back and listen.

Cutting-Edge Design

The Toby Standard-IV features a solid Basswood body and a flush-mount, low profile, adjustable bridge. The Toby Standard's most legendary feature is the Tobias Asymmetrical Neck profile which is a bolt-on design with recessed bolts and washers for easy adjustments. Tobias basses were among the first to feature an asymmetrical neck, a design where the neck is thinner on the lower side than on the upper side. The asymmetric back shape feels less bulky than standard bass necks allowing for maximum hand comfort and creating a thinner, faster-feeling neck. While these necks might read more "feel" thinner, there is still sufficient thickness on the upper side to provide for excellent strength, stability and --best of all--deep, rich tone. Your thumb will find easy reference as your hand glides up and down the fretboard. The neck has a 34 inch scale length for enhanced clarity, a Rosewood fingerboard with a 12 inch fingerboard radius and 1.68 inch nut. Premium die-cast tuners are used for tuning stability and the neck is finished in Satin.

This was my first bass of my own. I've played friends basses over the years of various standards. This bass blew me away!!! I was surprised by how versatile this bass was. I could play everything from funk to punk with this thing. I would have easily payed twice as much for this bass. Only complaint is only black and white to choose from.

Musical Style:

Punk, hardcore, fusion, funk, reggae
