The VPD1 vintage pre-drive pedal is a lot more than just an overdrive. With the additional boost section, top and mid boost, remote control, and a vintage-type speaker simulation, VPD1 is a genuinely versatile guitar pedal. Our scientists designed the VPD1 to reproduce warm driven vintage tones that you would normally only get from a tube amp with the master volume turned all the way up.

Simplicity, great sound, and timeless design make up the holy trinity of the VPD1 vintage pre-drive pedal. This pedal is all about bringing out the best in your favorite guitar/amp setup without any unwanted coloring of tone or quality-compromising add-ons. VPD1 would therefore serve as an excellent companion for the G-System from TC Electronic. The basic drive section delivers a distinguished vintage overdrive allowing every characteristic of your instrument to shine through. When you kick in the boost section, you get a saturated lead sound with plenty of gain and sustain. Additional features on the boost section are the Top and Mid boost emphasis filters that let your tone really cut through.

VPD1 features a unique circuit, which accurately replicates every group of components in an original vintage tube amp combo, including the dynamic interaction that occurs between the components. In addition to the drive functionality, VPD1 actually serves as a small preamp, ranging sonically from barely audible overdrive to snarling leads - and beyond.

In the VPD1 signal path, the boost section is placed before the drive, which means that the boosted guitar signal not only sounds louder but also sounds more overdriven. This makes it ideal for switching from rhythm to lead guitar. The remote function even allows you to switch the VPD1 boost on and off with the new G-System from TC Electronic, or any other external relay switching device. For your convenience, we've also included top and mid boost switches for a more flexible sonic exploitation of the VPD1.

The VPD1 sports an integrated speaker filter that makes it very useful for studio sessions and home practice. The speaker filter, which can be bypassed at a flick of a switch, is based on the same research as the VPD1 Drive, and underlines the vintage qualities of the new TC pedal.

Quality:
Best rock solif construction, as usual TC-Electron makes.

Value:
Not cheap, but worth every penny. Best pedal so far.

Desirability:
Great Sex appeal. It's a solid construction, with black beauti appearance. Quality is the biggest argument, against japanse plastic trash.

Sound:
It's the best sounding distortion pedal I ever had. It sounds like a real british valve amp. From low distortion up to screaming distortion, - everythings possible. No harsh transistor edge. Speaker simulator is so great. It sounds like a real speaker. Unbelievable. !! Sounds perfect for homerecording too. Very nice on stage in conjunction with your favourite amp. You can disable the speaker sim if you like.

Support:
Good support site. Had no problems yet with it. Mine is 1/2 year old.

Overall:
I'd never play another pedal than this one.

"nice overdrive, plenty of gain, remote switchable, what's not to like?"
Feature:
The best thing (other than the sound) is the flexibility of this pedal with the included remote switches. If you have a midi pedal board with relay capability (like the behringer FCB1010) or an effx rack with relays like the TC electronic G-major, you can remotely switch this thing on and off (as well as the boost function) along with your patches. Which more pedals came with this capability. My complaints: the boost function works only with the overdrive engaged, not on its own. Also, it cannot use batteries, but they include a power supply.

Quality:
been using it for 3 months, and so far so good. Very solidly built, the knobs feel sturdy. I also own their G-Major, and seems to be as good.

Value:
It is a tad expensive, but considering all the flexibility its remote switching gives you, is like having 2 pedals in one.

Desirability:
unique in its versatility (did a hear "remote switching"!!).

Sound:
Sounds real, organic, pretty much tube distortion. Not you metal head/fuzz type sound, more like a growling and round british amp distortion. I use it on the clean channel of my Marshall JCM900, and is sounds just right. Dont' get me wrong, there's plenty of sustain and gain when combining the drive and boost. Also, the sound responds well to changing the volume on you guitar.

Ease of Use:
Is just a pedal, so easy enough, and all settings sound great.

Support:
I sent an email once and they answered quickly. Their support web has lots of useful info.

Overall:
If you have a way to control the switching functions of this pedal, then you should get it.
