I play regular gigs as the one-man show in the corner of your local pub/eatery with my acoustic, a looper, vocal harmonizer and guitar effects- the latest version of my pedal board has been built up over the past 2 years for more money than I care to add up. It includes the vocal harmonizer (TC Helicon's Harmony g-xt), overdrive, boost, octaver, acoustic modelling preamp, looper and a multi-effect unit (a Zoom multistomp)... The Voicelive 3 replaces it all in one swoop, and does it better than everything else. As a bonus: there are no cables between effects to route and go bad, and no external mixing needed (guitar in, mic in, P.A. out) and even my in-ear monitor system is unnecessary now, as the VL3 includes a special headphone monitor mix and a custom guitar + headphone cable to get the headphone signal to you! Yes, the menus and parameters can be bewildering. Read the manual, subscribe to the forums, and watch the youtube videos produced by TC Helicon- they help immensely. The lack of a PC-based editor for all these options is a bit of a downer, but I can deal with it. Speaking of the support- TC's support is AMAZING! Got questions? Ask in the forums and it's likely that TC's spokesperson, Craig, will answer. They are amazingly responsive, and even take user input for features seriously. The guitar effects are pretty good, but they're not boutique. The vocal effects options are pretty over-the-top: everything from simple harmonies to choirs of voices to Cylons (yep, Cylons). read more The looper section is nice, with 3 available channels, and the option to record from Mic, Guitar, Mic+Guitar, or the aux input. There are different sync modes available, ranging from locked to a metronome to free looper. It's definitely more versatile than the Boss RC-30 I had been using, but also has a bit of a learning curve to it. Speaking of the metronome- you can push that through to your headphone mix, so you have a click track that the audience doesn't hear.
