What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Grand Symphony body shape Robust, strong bass balanced by clear articulation
Ovangkol back and sides Wide and full midrange; smooth lows and highs
Sitka spruce top Projects rich, crisp and responsive tone
Taylor Expression System pickups Innovative multiple pickup system on-board

The Taylor 416ce acoustic-electric guitar is a truly elegant instrument, marrying West African ovangkol with North American Sitka spruce tonewoods in Taylor's unique Grand Symphony body shape. It is distinguished with a Venetian-style cutaway offering access up through the 17th fret, and pre-installed Taylor Expression System electronics. The Taylor 416ce is as easy on the eyes as the rest of Taylor's guitars, while its voice is rich and distinctive with a complex tonal character all its own. The guitar's thick Grand Symphony body projects a sound that is unique and full, with lots of throw.

Ovangkol Sides for a Distinctive Sound

The use of tropical West African ovangkol wood in 416ce's back and sides reflects Taylor's commitment to exploring new woods and tones in guitar design. As a side and back material, ovangkol yields a sound that is most similar to Indian rosewood. Its distinctive midrange sparkle, however, gives it a character all its own. It leads to a guitar with a broader tonal spectrum, with particularly crisp treble notes and slightly more midrange than most other acoustics. The light finish on the guitar's Sitka spruce top reveals the subtle beauty in the grain of this North American tonewood. The Taylor 416ce's white binding and progressive dot fretboard inlays complete the unique character of this particular model.

An Entire Symphony in a Single Guitar

The Taylor Grand Symphony body shape was specially designed from the ground up to deliver more voice read more than the Grand Auditorium design that inspired it. Its dimensions are only slightly greater than the GA, but by placing these expansions in the right places, Taylor has created an instrument that has even more throw and punch than you'd expect. The highs and mids sparkle while the low end remains unbelievably pronounced and defined.

A Revolutionary Acoustic-Electric System

The Expression System that comes pre-installed on the Taylor 416ce reflects another one of Taylor's great innovations. In collaboration with the legendary audio engineer Rupert Neve, Taylor was able to create an internal preamp capable of reproducing the Taylor Guitar's incredible natural sound -- but without adding the noise or coloration created by most drop-in pickup systems. They did so with a hybrid system that functions more like a series of tiny microphones would, by inserting multiple body sensors into critical points inside the guitar. These sensors work together to deliver a complete and accurate acoustic image. The ES's brilliance is completed with an audiophile-grade Class A preamp with 2-way Bass/Treble EQ and balanced line output. This makes an excellent way to work with your guitar in the studio. It is powered with a 9-volt battery.

This is the total package! Clarity, definition, crisp highs piano-like lows great playability... Fingerstyle, flat picking, digging in hard driving blues... It does it all! The body style is comfortable (and I'm a small guy) but produces a huge sound, the solid ovangkol body sounds great... Precise, ringing tones w/ great projection. I've been paying for thirty years... Professionally, in clubs, studio, festivals and as a worship leader playing in small combos, power trios, amplified acoustic combos and big bands... And I'm rarely excited over an instruments performance - I love this axe, I've been using it for seven months now and continue to be impressed. Oh and it looks great too!
