Description
Docs
The CD-RW2000 is the most advanced stand-alone CD Recorder available. Building on the success of Tascam's CD-RW700 and CD-RW5000, the CD-RW2000 comes with a host of professional features, including comprehensive audio I/O, word sync input, call function for checking play cues, incremental play function, auto ready (single play) mode, input monitoring, digital gain adjustment, and digital fade in and fade out.

Features
Ý XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced analog I/O
Ý AES/EBU, S/PDIF coax, and optical digital I/O
Ý Records and plays 74 min and 80 min CDs

Ý Selectable SCMS copy protection
Ý Adjustable gain on digital I/O

The CD-RW2000 is made for professional use. A RAM buffer is included to ensure tight ID markers without danger of clipping the start of the track, and the SCMS code can be set via the user menu. Digital gain adjustment allows you to boost level adjustments without going back to the analog source, and the adjustable auto cue function lets you locate right to the start of actual audio, rather than the track ID.

Tascam CDRW2000 Rackmount Pro CD Player and Recorder Reviews

"Externally clockable CD-transport"
Feature:
Had it had a wireless remote I would have given it 10. That said you get a lot for the money A/D, recording, external clocking to name a few.

Quality:
The remote has been playing up off-and-on and I haven't had time to address it - and now the warranty is up... The player sometimes makes funny noises - electronic noise and has a slight hum

Value:
I paid less - it's an ex-demo.

Sound:
I use the Tascam as a CD-transport in a high-end home stereo. The reason I bought it is the ability to clock it externally - so that it's in sync with my DAC (I use a Lucid Clkx6 distribution amp to extract the clock and send it to the Tascam) . You can tell if the sync is off, indicating that the internal clock is less than ideal. Have also compared it with Sony's CDRW-66 which seems to have a better internal clock, a bloomier soundstage and less precision and punch in the bass.

Support:
Can't say really - have to see if they're willing to assist with my remote despite warranty having expired.

Overall:
I'm upgrading to a Universal disk player, and I've had this for a year. What I want is the ability to play DVD-A and SACD + a non-cable remote. Obviously it's unfair to compare. I will probably keep it anyway - it does record and I can put a lot of my analog tapes to digital disk/hard-drive memory through the A/D. The greatest feature for me with this player is that it is externally clockable.
