It's hard to think of anything more important to your music than having the right snare sound. Quite a few drummers use more than one snare drum on stage as well as when recording. The tonal character of the snare drum is determined by many factors such as the shell material, shell size, shell thickness, snappy snare, and hoops.

"ALL" Birch Shell
With so many Maple kits on the market today, it's almost hard to remember that just 15 years ago, Birch kits were more popular than Maple. But a significant number of pro players still prefer the sound of Birch and many more are rediscovering Birch's round, slightly darker sound and great projection. Starclassic Performer shells are 100% Birch with thin shell construction that offers a resonance and clarity that rivals some of the best maple kits. Best of all, advances in drum technology allow Tama to offer this fully professional drum for the price you'd pay for an intermediate set.

Die-Cast Hoops
Hoops not only affect drum tuning; they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops was so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For our Starclassic Performer EFX, we chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and much more powerful rim shots. zZounds is an authorized dealer of Tama products.

"More bang for your buck! (Tama star classic performer series - 100% birch- rocks!)"

Sound: I own a 70's Ludwig maple classic series .blue /olive badge with 402 snare and huge power toms and 24 inch kicks drums .carmine appice/ Bonham kit..But now i got the Tama Star classic perfomer 100% birch fusion kit.same colour as that snare in review . I was floored by the tonal quality of the kit .The toms emit a perfect tone ,the whole kit around ,balanced and even in sustain .with emperor clears on toms .great attack and tone ,the 20 inch kick drum ,took some getting used to ! I just use a felt strip with a clear pin stripe ,to open up the sound ! cause i like a big kick drum .for a 20 inche kick , mic up live .its gut thumping! The secret weapon of the whole perfomer star classic kit ,has got to be the snare ! It just blew me away . I have the 402 Luddy and this 5.5 is sharper in attack and bites ya ears right off , I will exploit the rim shot of this killer snare ..be aware dont come in the room with some live presence ,it will demolecularise your hearing ! this snare would make Gene krupa go crazy .. In conclusion ..the star classic 100% birch perfomer kit is a tonal orgasm to climax any kind genre of music .
