I LOVE this gizmo! So I've been revamping my home recording studio the last few months, which I self-engineer. I record and run the software and hardware while I perform on several different instruments. Well I used to use a fairly large FireWire mixing board (TASCAM FW-1884), which was great, but it wouldn't work with my new purchase of Native Instruments Maschine (which is absolutely awesome). So I replaced that by migrating over to a simpler setup using a Focusrite Saffire as my interface (also awesome) after realizing that I don't really use many of the buttons and knobs on my mixing board. BUT, I do use OFTEN the transport part.... the stop / start / record part. A LOT! So what do I do? Well this thing solved the problem and not only does it do all the transport functions, but it's very portable, especially when you give it a USB extension cord. So now I can place it close to what I'm recording. For example, when I record guitar, I put it on a little stool just inches from my guitar. So when I do those countless stop / starts, I don't have to reach two feet away anymore! It's two inches now and it's heavenly. Why didn't I do this years ago, I ask myself? I don't know why these aren't more readily available... I had to really hunt to get this one and I'm tempted to buy a spare just in case. It's ESSENTIAL to any self-engineered studio. I only wish I could program some of the buttons so I can add a DELETE button for my many recording takes. Maybe I can...I haven't really read read more the manual. Just plugged it in and ran with it. Get one if you want to speed up all those RECORD and PLAY and STOPs. The slider pad is nifty too.... I thought I would really miss my jog wheel on my mixing board, but now I just slide my finger like you would on an iPhone.
