The CMC-PD is very responsive to Cubases Groove agent in that whatever kit you choose you can switch banks within that kit...so you can actually select the banks from on the pads. Its a midi device, so it doesn't generate its own sound. however you can determine the level of reponsiveness of the pad from basically ultra sensitive or to where u gotta brutally thump on it to get your sound feedback. I like my pads very sensitive so I can be quick on the drums. I haven't tested it with any other software, but it does work as a midi pad for other sounds. For the price I paid couldn't lose, real good deal, real talk
