"The BEST DJ Console! EVER - PERIOD - END OF STORY!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have DJ'ed for 20 years and have used everything from 1200's to CD decks, controllers, etc. I picked up the Stanton SCS-4DJ as a backup console and never intended to use it as a main unit. After using it for a couple weeks, I realized this is going to be my main system - end of story. The controls on this thing are so precise for cuing, cutting and scratching its amazing! It literally has the same feel as a true technics 1200 turntable. You can tell they put an incredible amount of time into getting this thing to feel right. Also, the looping and cuing is so easy and precise that you can get really creative with it. For example, if you turn on the "touch" option on the deck, you can scratch in a phrase or beat and then touch the deck, cue it back and scratch it in again without having to pull the deck back. This feature alone is worth it. The bottom line on this thing is that it is so well designed you can do very creative mixing on it - more so than what you can do on a turntable. I had no idea a $400 DJ deck would outperform turntables or $1000 Denon decks. All I use for DJ'ing now is this Stanton unit. And the beautiful thing about it is that you don't have to lug around a computer! It is so easy in the club to hook this up to the outputs and your headphones and your done! It takes all of 30 seconds. No more 10 minute setups with the computer, breakout box and controllers. As much as I like this, there are some downsides. When you have large libraries of music, the read more scroll and search options are a little slow but getting better with software updates. Sometimes the cue function doesn't cue on the precise point on the WAV you want. This happens but its rare and I am sure its a simple software glitch they will fix. The screen is easy to read and the best part of this unit. Instead of having to DJ and look at a laptop screen, you are actually DJ'ing and looking at the screen all in the same place. On top of that, since its integrated, no more mousepads and keyboards to cue songs. The entire concept of this unit is the way to go. Forget the laptop and do everything in one unit. You can even plug in a USB key while you are DJ'ing in one of the many USB ports and the unit will automatically read the files and beat match them in the background quickly. You can plug and unplug USB keys easily. For example, if you had your laptop with you and downloaded a new song, all you have to do is copy the file to the USB key and plug it in and the Stanton will read it automatically. Personally, I have not been much of a Stanton fan over the years, however, they have redeemed themselves by making one of the most innovative DJ consoles I have ever used. I absolutely love this thing.
