Seymour Duncan SH-18 Whole Lotta Humbucker Pickup

Want a whole lotta tone? These humbuckers are styled after the legendary PAF pickups found in the classic Gibson models that shapped the sound of rock.

Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton -- these are just a few of the many names that come to mind when Seymour Duncan's vintage rock tone is referenced, and the Seymour Duncan SH-18 Whole Lotta humbucker is ready to bring this tone to your axe. This legendary pickup winds a rough cast alnico V magnet with 42-gauge plain-enamel wire and harnesses a higher frequency response and a big output, bringing you a warm vintage PAF British tone. This baby's four-conductor wire provides the avenue for coil-tapping and phase reversal options.

An Exact Replica of a Legendary Tone Machine

Seymour Duncan's early '70s stint in London led to his experience of doing rewinds and repairs for legendary players like Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, and Jeff Beck. In fact, Seymour Duncan's early signature pickup tones can be heard on Jeff Beck's early solo albums. The SH-18 Whole Lotta humbucker perfectly replicates this vintage '70s PAF tone -- perfect for any guitarist that's into the era's sonic character and unyielding influence in rock.

Models Available for Neck and Bridge Positions

Seymour Duncan has available models of the SH-18 for both neck and bridge positions. The bridge humbucker has a slightly hotter signal that's punchy and cuts through beautifully for leads and solos. The neck humbucker still cuts through, but does so with a slightly rounder sound that's full and rich. Both pickups feature that warm, read more full-bodied vintage sound known to be associated with PAF tone.

Four-conductor Wire and Rough Cast Alnico V Magnet

This pickup's rough cast alnico V magnet gives your signal a warm and well-defined, ultra clear projection with every strum. Alnico V magnets are the strongest of the alnico magnet division and provide higher output, aggressive signal character, and a more powerful tone with more response. Four-conductor wire provides versatile opportunities for coil-tapping and phase reversal options.

Seymour Duncan SH-18

Seymour's special re-wound PAFs went into a Les Paul and captured a sound that blasted through a Marshall stack and into history. These same pickups are now the Whole Lotta Humbucker. In his youth, Seymour Duncan spent time in London and aided fellow young guitar players with defining their sound through pickups. This wouldn't be much of a story if one of these lads didn't go on to change the world!

The recipe for these pickups starts with a rough cast Alnico 5 magnets, plain enamel wire, and Seymour's unique wind pattern. The bridge is a hotter than vintage 8.78k DC resistance and the neck is similarly beefy at 8.20k. Tonally, the rough cast magnets add warmth and balanced note-to-note clarity so everything sounds bigger. What is sonically unique about the Whole Lotta Humbucker is the way they push your amp and add a very slight natural compression and sustain to your playing. You know how they sound!
