I bought this along with a Quarter Pound P-Bass pickup as upgrades to the muddy EMG-designed pickups in my mid-90s Alvarez "Villain" 4-string, and the difference is impossible to miss. SOOOO much more clarity, punch, character, and output! The midrange is pronounced, but not overly so - i'm getting a noticeable boost in all frequencies, but now my bass has a voice and presence it never had before. A lot meatier than the cheap stock pickup, I hear the bass cutting through my guitar tracks without drowning anything out. Clarity without being too sharp or brittle. I play mostly metal, but I also dabble in R&B, funk, and blues, and this set is perfect for literally everything. I've seen a few reviews complaining about 60-cycle hum (it IS a single-coil), but my bass is shielded well so I haven't had any buzz whatsoever. If you're worried about noise, don't - just spend the couple bucks for the copper shielding tape that your bass should've had installed at the factory and spend half an hour putting it in the control cavity. Buy this pickup. Or better yet, buy a set to fit every slot in your bass.
