Schecter Raiden Special-5 Electric Bass (5-String)

No longer available at zZounds
Want a bass with serious tonal range? Schecter's SuperRock pickups are made with two J-style pickups in one casing -- complete with push/pull coil-tapping.

The Schecter Raiden Special-5 string bass has amazing features that beat out many basses far above its price range. Featuring Schecter SuperRock bass pickups which are two Jazz pickups in one casing, creating a thundering bass punch. The tone knob also acts as a pickup tap that will split the Jazz pickups for a more traditional bright tone, great for many styles of music!

Schecter Bass Tuners:

Schecter Bass tuners provide high quality, precision tuning with minimum weight. Details include a 17:1 gear ratio allowing for precise fine tuning adjustments, removable knobs, threaded peghead bushing, and a 13.6 mm diameter peg hole.

Rosewood Fingerboard:

The most common fretboard, rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than maple because the stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

Schecter SuperRock Bass Pickups:

Two Jazz pickups in one casing. In two coil mode the midrange is powerful with a nice punch. When push-pull tone knob is pulled up the single coil tone is classic with jazzy lows and highs.

Diamond DLX String Thru Bridge

Traditional steel plated bridge with increased string travel for extra intonation adjustment and string through body design.

I'd had the 4-string Raiden Special, so I was familiar with Schecter. I'd been looking for a 5 string, just to stop needing to drop tune. I'd played a few other brands, but hadn't dropped cash on them (some very nice, some that ... weren't.) Ordering the 5 string without playing it first made me a bit nervous, but familiarity with the line was a plus. I unpacked it and the neck on this just felt perfect to me. Not too wide, not too thick, it fit me almost perfectly. It needed a touch of setup out of the box - about 1/8 turn on the truss rod for some low fret buzz - but other than that, it was ready to go. Play other basses, give them a try - but don't pass this by. It's a very nice bass at a very good price.

Musical Background:

Playing on and off, multiple instruments, since grade school. Back to bass after a break of about a decade.

Musical Style:

Anything that catches my ear.
