Manufacturer's Description for Schecter California Custom Electric Bass

Previously only available from the Schecter Custom Shop, the new Diamond Series California Custom Basses offer many features from those hand-built counterparts. These Custom basses feature an alder body with a highly figured Maple top. Both 4 and 5 string versions feature a bolt-on 35 in. scale rock maple neck for added low-end clarity. The gloss-finished neck has a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard inlaid with Black Pearl dots.

Other features include a massive chrome plated Hipshot 'A' style bridge, which adds sonic sustain, low-end clarity and gives you the option of 'thru-body' or traditional top-load stringing, EMG pickups, and an EMG Active BTS system (master volume, balance and independent bass and treble controls). Schecter basses now come with factory installed Elixir strings for tone and long-life. All Schecter Diamond Series Basses are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Hipshot Bridge
When the strings are run through the body of your instrument as opposed to being held at the back end of the bridge, string pressure is directed downward forcing the saddles into the body. Therefore saddle/ bridge/ body coupling is enhanced, giving you a more snappy tone (good for slapping) and increased clarity (great for drop tuning and distorted bass tones). The Hipshot 'A' bridge are available with the string through and top loading features combined so that you can run some strings though the body or from the back of the bridge for maximum tonal adjustment and variations (for example; you may want to run your bass strings though the body while running you treble strings from the back of the bridge.) zZounds is an authorized dealer of Schecter products.

Sound: Excellent and versatile tone. Low-E string seems a bit loose. Amazing sustain. Excellent choice for slap. Feature: Doesn't appear to have an active/passive switch. Excellent workmanship and materials. I'm a little disappointed that the hardware was not a gold or brass finish with the flame maple finish. Quality: Extremely well made. I've had a few bumps so far, and am amazed how much effort it takes to put a blemish on the finish. Value: A bargain. I can't imagine getting more for my money. Manufacturer Support: Sporadic accessibility, but friendly and helpful. Need either a separate manual or inclusion of specific references/figures for the California Custom bass within the manual. The Wow Factor: A beautiful flame maple finish. Only thing missing is the gold or brass finish on the hardware (including hipshot bridge) for the perfect look. Overall: I'll definitely hang onto this one for its slap tone, playability, sustain, and looks.
