Steinberger XT-25 Standard Electric Bass, 5-String (with Gig Bag)

Steinberger style meets 5-string range in the XT-25 Standard. This all-maple, neck-through-body bass boasts the rock-solid Double Ball tuning system.

Nothing looks like a Steinberger and nothing performs like one either! The Spirit XT-25 is a 5-string bass featuring the same distinctive body-shape as the award-winning Steinberger XL Series and features the trademark headless neck with the patented Double-Ball tuning system. Add to that, a 3-piece hard Maple neck going completely through the body reinforced with an adjustable truss rod and this bass is not only stable, it's practically indestructible!

Other features include the patented Steinberger fixed bass bridge with direct-pull, 40:1 ratio machine heads, two (humbucker - humbucker) Steinberger bass pickups and folding leg rest for playing comfort while sitting. And the XT-25 is perhaps the world's most "travel-friendly" and convenient bass ever made. It comes complete with a gigbag and, being only 38.5" in length, it can fit in places where other basses can't! If you're on a budget but still need and want an instrument with Steinberger features and performance, the Spirit XT bass is perfect for you.

I had bought another travel bass before I came across the Steinberger Spirit at the same price. The first one had a shorter scale and no audio controls. Since I wanted the bass to practice and develop new techniques while on winter vacation, I didn't want to fool around the different scale lengths. I didn't look into it, but I'm pretty sure the B string would be too fat to fit the tuners and so - like the Steinberger - might require special strings. The lack of controls was just a minor annoyance. So I decided to return it and take a chance on the Steinberger. Good choice. The controls are pretty basic (no master volume) but they work fine for practicing. The action is OK as shipped; when I get home I may tweak it a little. It won't replace my Ibanez 5-string which stays home because the case won't fit in the trunk, but for my purposes, it's perfect. Well almost. When I get home, I'll move the left side ("peg head" end) strap button to a more conventional location - not a big deal because I practice sitting down. The white model looks like it belongs to an imperial storm trooper, which is a plus.

Musical Background:

I've played acoustic guitar for 50+ years; switched to bass to play in church a couple of years ago.

Musical Style:

Christian, folk, other traditional forms.
