Roland VP770 49-Key Vocal and Ensemble Keyboard Reviews

"A wonderful but expensive keyboard"
Feature:
This keyboard doesn't offer much other than the vocal designer. It has auto harmony and auto note, which is useful for a keyboardist who sings. Other features like the USB host and sound looper are pretty neat as well. Seems like a great live performance tool to me. Not to be greedy but I wish it has more and better samples. It comes with a headset mic, which is very useful.

Quality:
very well built, as well as beautiful. I think it will last for a long, long time.

Value:
the only thing it has that others (except for the v-synth line) don't is the vocal designer, so it's pretty unique. Other than that, you have a pretty basic keyboard so I don't think it's worth its typical selling price.

Desirability:
it's pretty amazing, both cosmetically and the sound it can make. I think anybody would want something like this at a first glance.

Sound:
Vocal designer is amazing! Very realistic choir patches, there are 3 types for every category, mixed, female, and male, so it's versatile, though one can also adjust the tone by playing with the "tone" slider and the eq. Good robotic vocoder as well. The ensemble section is generally good. The Supernatural brass and strings are especially great, but I don't really like the acoustic piano sound. However, the strength of this keyboard is the Vocal designer so it doesn't bother me so much. This keyboard can make pretty realistic orchestral sounds (as well as electronic vocoder sounds of course) and I can see it used from church worships to bands. I am going to try mine with my band this weekend and see what happens.

Ease of Use:
you can get great sounds right away with the choir patches, which is awesome. It is pretty easy to use, manual is easy to understand. it has a couple sliders and buttons for realtime control, but it's pretty limited in my opinion. Some of the features are harder to discover but once you read the manual you will be fine. Playing this keyboard is great fun!!! I've spent countless hours messing with it and it sounds different each time I play it.

Support:
Have not dealt with Roland...yet.

Overall:
it's a pretty unique board that does well in one field and not so well in others, so I am going to pair it up with another keyboard. It really is a great piece of equipment, if it was lost or stolen, however, I might not get it due to its price, I would get something else like a cheaper VA, but I don't think anything can replace this for the moment. Yeah I think it's mostly the price that gets everybody upset.
