Just as the V-Tour line is getting an upgrade this year, so too is the V-Compact series. The TD-3SW takes over for the current TD-3SV, and features Roland's new PDX-8 snare mesh V-pad and CY-5 hi-hat cymbal pad. The most affordable kit in the V-Drums family now performs even more like its bigger V-Drums brothers. Learn More...

"A great buy..."

Feature:
This is a basic set up and there are more expensive sets that naturally offer more however, for the money, it's pretty hard to beat. It does offer various features such as cowbell, chimes, congas, etc. but you have to sacrifice one or more pads to achieve that due to the fact that the module only allows for one free trigger hookup. To make up for this I purchased a Pintech rod trigger (about 40 bucks) and use that for any additional effects.

Quality:
The overall quality of this unit is very good. The rack is designed with grooves to elimate slipping and can be set up in minutes.

Value:
I priced many other electronics in this price range and found that Roland offered the best features for the money.

Desirability:
Hey, electronic drums have no sex appeal compared to the acoustics. They're basic, they're bland, and they look like something out of a science fiction movie. Hell, I think I'm playing for Devo everytime I sit on them however I also love the sound reproduction and that's what's important. For live gigs I'll stick to acoustic due to the freedom of the kit however I will probably never use acoustics in the studio again.

Sound:
I bought this solely for recording sessions and it has turned out to be a great investment. In that sense it completely eliminates the hassle of acoustic compression, mic placement, etc. and the sound is excellent. The only downfall is the size of the trigger pads (8") which merely takes getting used to. Running this directly through a PA also produces a fantastic sound quality.

Support:
The only problem...Roland currently does not offer email support, only the dreaded phone system. I have not had problems with the drums but did want to contact them prior to buying. I decided instead to do my own homework. Roland support may be fine; I am solely commenting on the fact that you can't contact them online.

Overall:
I'm very satisfied and will probably only eliminate these to upgrade. Basically Roland sold me on electronic kits and now want to try the Roland acoustic triggers for my Stage Customs. I don't think anyone buying this set will be disappointed.

"Simply magnificent!"

Feature:
This kit came with everything you need to get started, even some velcro straps to handle the messy wires. I especially liked that the diagrams perfectly depicted the way the mounts should be positioned, etc. I'd say the most useful features of this kit are all of the coaching modes. I've been drumming for about 12 years, and I thought my timing would be perfect, but alas, the coaching mode has helped me to improve my timing and stamina. Even a built-in metronome provides great support when working on these skills.

Quality:
The product came in tip top shape, nothing bent, scratched, broken, blemished, etc. The kit goes together very easily and stays adjusted perfectly. Sometimes you see a softer metal used in the rods for the tom mounts, but these are solid, great for years of use and adjustments. The rack itself is a little unsturdy, probably due to it's plastic composition and a not-so-wide stance on the bottom, but the quality is still great for the money. The PD-80R dual trigger mesh snare is an amazing unit. The quality of this drum is incredible. Even the rim triggers perfectly, unlike some other brands mesh pads.

Value:
Wow! A big, huge TEN on this category. I'll be a Roland fan for life. Some companies sacrafice the "wow" factor when manufacturing an "entry level" product, and Roland has thrown that out the window. This is an outstanding product for only $999 (with the PD-80R snare). And still a great the TD-3S kit at a little less money (without the PD-80R snare)

Desirability:
Hmm.. tough category. This product doesnt have the flashy, multi colored, triple rack, bells and whistles that other, more expensive drums have. This set doesnt really have much sex appeal, but the instrument is meant to be played, not stared at. This would be a more suited category for a guitar or an acoustic drum set. Tough one, sorry I couldnt be more help.

Sound:
The sound is great with this unit. While using headphones, the sounds are very expressive and the bass is nice and deep. I have an inexpensive amplifier, so the amplified sound is not as good as the phones. With the PM-10 or the PM-3 personal amplification system, this kit would rock. Another great thing about the sound is the many different ambience settings that are available. I recommend c3 for a hollow, concert-like sound.

Support:
While I havent had to personally contact the company, I have used their web site which really has all the support you need with your new drums. I have had no problems or repairs needed or anything like that.

Overall:
I will probably have this kit for 2-3 years. I usually try new things every couple years, not because Im unsatisfied with the one I have, I just like to stay "up" on the new technology and the new looks, etc.. This kit seemed to be the best value because it cost me $100 more than the TD-3S and you get the PD-80R snare which is worth $240.00. So that alone makes it a great buy. What I like most about the kit overall is the PD-80R. It's a great feel, great sound, very accurate. What I like least is the Bass drum pad mount. Mine moves all over the place, but I dont have a thick carpet which is recommended by Roland. If I were to replace this kit, Id get the TD-6 tour or the TD-10.
