Product Description

The Roland TD12KX V-Drum V-Stage electronic drum set has been redesigned for high-impact performance and recording. Bigger pads, stronger hardware, and enhanced V-Edit capabilities anchor the TD12KX V-Stage kit. The drum rack and mounting hardware have been redesigned as well, providing an extra solid feel with enhanced pad mounting and placement. The KD120 kick pad is larger and more stable, as is the PD105 floor-tom pad, offering a more natural look and feel around the kit. Enhanced V-Edit features have also been added to the TD12KX package for a wider variety of custom sounds. For drummers who want the best V-Drums sound and performance without the larger footprint and price of the flagship TD20SX, the TD12KX is the ideal instrument.

Enlarged Pads

For an enhanced look and feel, the TD12KX's kick and floor-tom pads have been upgraded to the larger KD120 and PD105, respectively. Not only do the bigger pads look more substantial, they also provide a more natural feel and response. Each pad in the kit features Roland's patented mesh drumhead, which can be tensioned with a standard drum key.

New Drum Rack

The newly designed MDS12X drum rack is streamlined yet incredibly solid. New ball-clamp mounts for the snare, tom, and cymbal pads allow for more versatile positioning. Combined with the enlarged pads, the new rack creates an overall look that's more substantial and solid.

TD12 Drum Module

With the same top-quality sound as the flagship TD20X, the TD12 drum module provides hundreds of expressive instruments and play-along sequences. Many of the sounds in the TD12 are COSM modeled for the ultimate in expression and realism. The module provides the same large, icon-based LCD as its big brother, and is housed in a road-tough, gun-metal gray chassis with a friendly array of buttons, controls, and mix sliders. A dozen trigger inputs are provided, plus four audio outputs and MIDI I/O.

Enhanced V-Edit

Enjoy the dozens of expert-programmed kits onboard the TD12 -- from authentic acoustic sets to ultra-modern electronic flavors. But the fun doesn't stop there; customize your drum set with enhanced V-Edit features, which let you change sizes and materials, mic-positioning, attach virtual sizzles to cymbals, increase snare buzz, and more. The TD12 supports positional sensing on the snare and ride to realize the delicate nuances of each impact location. The TD12 is also brush compatible, and features the expressive Interval Control for the snare and cymbals, which varies the sound in natural ways based on the speed of stroke repetition. zZounds is an authorized dealer of Roland products.

Sound: The sound quality is superb. From a percussionists perspective, every sampled sound couldn't be better. The response of the pads makes for easy playing. I've worked with a number of the Roland drumkits and this is by far the best Roland has done in an affordable price-range. Feature: This kit came with all the necessary accessories: drummers throne, hi-hat stand and bass drum pedal all for one relatively low price. Ease of Use: The patches are easy to create and the programming is intuitive making it fun to create and store new kits. Quality: Not only is this kit superior in craftsmanship, the design has taken into consideration cable placement which are harnessed inside the heavy-duty stand. Value: The best price for the set and accessories I've found anywhere. Manufacturer Support: Roland is not an easy company to reach out to for support, however the Internet provides much of what you're probably looking for. There are also music stores that provide servicing of parts. The Wow Factor: The design is practical and aesthetically this kit surpasses all of the competition in its' elegance. Overall: I've done two years of research on this product and during that time many of the competitors have tried to emulate this kit and failed. The sounds are absolutely the best, the set up is professional and durable and the fact is I would buy this set all over again in a heartbeat!

Sound: Extremely incredible sound, very authentic, warm and accurate all voices (instruments) I've played in the kit. I'm playing the kit through a 16 channel Yamahah mixer with a headphone amp and the sound is too good to be true. I've used the TD-7 kit at numerous gigs for about 5 years and although I've not giged out with this TD-12 the sound I'm hearing through my mixer board is off the charts. You won't be disappointed for sure. Feature: Coming from a TD-7 rubber pad kit to the TD-12KXS mesh head is an impressive upgrade. Closer to the feel of an acoustic kit head. I'm really missing that 4th tom. I am looking to add that tom I think. I've had a 4th tom for so long it is a little bit limiting. The extra 'free' DW gear that came with the Roland/DW offer is really great. The quality of these two companies is unsurpassed. That's icing on the cake for sure. Ease of Use: This TD-12 has all the great sounds you would expect from a state of the art E-Drum (V-Drum) kit. For some the presence of an electronic drum kit may be hard to accept. There seems to be some sort of stigma that some people will never get over be it the professional drummer or musician in general. I find the sounds very true to an acoustic kit and extremely easy to use. To get this quality sound out of an acoustic kit you first off would have to have a semi truck full of drum and percussion instruments then you would have to have another semi full of sound reinforcement gear a sound tech. and then a place to store all of the gear. In short E-Drums are the way to go for unparalleled sound and quality. The fact that I can play any time of the day or night for hours and hours without disturbing the household and/or neighborhood also speaks volumes. This kit will play right out of the box but tweeking some sensativities in the module make it better for me. Personal preference to some degree. I've played E-Drums for about 6 years and there is more of a learning curve with the rubber pads than the mesh head drums. If you are not good at hitting a steady pattern (target circle) on an acoustic kit the smaller E-Drum kit will become a challange. Since I like to play with my eyes closed it becomes necessary to 'feel' the kit and that takes some dedicated practice to pull it off and really feel the groove. Ah yes, the manual. Well Roland has had at least for me some difficulty pulling a user friendly ops. manual off. Having been through the TD-7 brain it is some what easier to navigate through. Knowing this I actually purchased a DVD user disc from ProAudioDVDs.com that was quite good. This will definitely jump start the learning cure. I play with quite a bit of dynamics and the kit is very responsive right out of the box. That is where the tweeking comes in. Depending on how much 'feel' you require this will enter into the way the module parameters are adjusted. That being said each person will have to decide how playable the kit needs to be for personal taste and comfort of playing. Some of this is learning what the kit can and cannot do. Quality: Forget about it. Roland is on the cutting edge of musical instrument sound period. I have played and listened to several other brands of E-Drums and Roland gives the compitition all the run for the money they will ever need. Roland gear has been very durable for me but like any other piece of gear you need to respect it especially if you are taking the show on the road. If you take care of your gear it will take care of you. Enough said. Value: Cheap is good right? Cheap and quality are usually far apart from each other. There is a reason why things that are cheap usually don't last. The engineering is seldom built into a cheaply manufactured piece of gear. The ole adage 'you get what you pay for' enters into this philosophy. Roland has built into their E-Drums a high level of quality that you can respect. Manufacturer Support: Finding out what the warranty really is was quite disturbing to me. There was no cut and dry listing for E-Drums and/or V-Drums on the Roland website and also there was no warranty card or hint of what or where to go for this information in any of the boxes I opened. That is and has always surprised me about Roland. Well as far as easy to reach, expect a long waiting period on the phone that's the norm. It seems like after you buy a product the support of that product is well, 'they have your money and now you are just a thorn in their side since they have more gear to sell for their bottom line.' What they fail to understand is that there are reviews like this one that people write that may play a very important part of whether a person buys a particular product. Support is very important and should be high on the consideration chart when deciding on the purchase of and expensive piece of gear like this. All I can say is be patient. The Wow Factor: Nickle plated, tripple chrome, drop forged double insulated lacquor triple coated comes to mind. I piece of gear may look like it's worth more than it is but the proof for me is about 80% in the sound. For sure the looks of a piece is important but lets face it you can't see the kit that is being used when listening to the artists CD or hearing it on the radio. 'Wow man, check out this guys gear it looks great'. Well until you hear what comes out of that gear changed your mind forever. End of discussion. Overall: I have been considering a replacement E-Drum kit for about 3 years. I just recently have notice the price has come down on the V-Drum kits and that is why I considered going to the cutting edge kit. The sounds of the new V-Drum kits was better than my TD-7 but the price was out of reach for me. Roland has always been a nickname for 'quality of good sound'. The quality and ruggedness of the TD-12 is top of the class. The cymbal support arms and clamps are solid as you would expect from a professional drum kit. Easy to use and adjust to where you need to place them on the rack. I was able to place all of the triggers where they felt comfortable to play.
