No longer available at zZounds
Fall in love with digital pianos again with the RD700GX piano from Roland, which features multi-sampled piano sounds and weighted keys for amazing realism.

As the flagship in the RD-line of stage pianos, the Roland RD700GX provides the serious, working keyboardist with more than just a sophisticated live solution. The RD700GX is a performance instrument sure to inspire even the most jaded of pro pianists. Utilizing the revolutionary SuperNATURAL sound engine for uncannily realistic acoustic and electric pianos, and the PHA II "Ivory Feel" 88-key keyboard, the Roland RD700GX will make you fall in love with digital stage pianos all over again.

Sounds So Good, It's Spooky
The RD700GX incorporates Roland's state-of-the-art SuperNATURAL sound engine, a significant step up form the typical multi-sample stage piano sound. Even on a piano with many MB of memory dedicated to samples, the patchwork nature of multi-sample synthesis makes gaps between dynamics layers on each note inevitable. SuperNATURAL instruments eliminate these gaps by organically morphing between samples, resulting in a piano sound that's every bit as expressive as the real thing. The same sound morphing engine also contributes to the most organic note decay Roland has ever achieved in a digital piano. The deep editing functions of the RD700GX and its sound engine also let you customize your piano sounds from the mechanical level-parameters like damper and hammer noise as well as up to eight channels of post-model multi-effects.

Great Grands, Expressive EPs
Unlike many performance keyboards, this cutting edge sound reproduction engine isn't relegated to the acoustic read more piano sounds alone. The RD700GX has amazing acoustic piano patches, yes, but it also packs in some of the most realistic Electric Piano sounds around. Wurlitzers and Rhodes' use complex mechanisms to produce their signature tones, making them at least as timbrally dynamic as an acoustic piano. The SuperNATURAL engine makes the Roland versions of these classic electric pianos just as expressive as their real-world counterparts, and more customizable. Add even more sonic firepower by installing up to two Roland SRX expansion boards like the Big Brass Ensemble for spot-on horns, or the Dynamic Drums expansion to bring a professional groove to your compositions.

Inspirational Sound Meets Inspirational Playability
Having a sound engine that goes above and beyond to recreate the organic sound of acoustic and electronic pianos doesn't mean much without the playability to match. That's why the RD700GX boasts Roland's PHA II "Ivory Feel" keyboard, with 88-keys that accurately mimic not only the mechanical action and resistance of a piano but also the tactile surface texture. If you're tired of playing plastic keys that feel like they belong on a toy, the PHA II was made for you. This premium playability complements the SuperNATURAL engine to make the Roland RD700GX a truly inspirational stage instrument.

Advanced Stage And Studio Integration
The PHA II is so nice, you'll wish every keyboard in your stage rig had one. Thanks to the RD700GX's full MIDI I/O and advanced zoning options, it makes a superior controller keyboard, so you'll never have to deign to touch less-than-stellar plastic or unweighted keys again. The RD700GX also features smart USB integration for stage and studio use. On stage, the keyboard can read WAV or MP3 audio off a USB thumb drive for instant backing tracks, and in the studio it serves as both keyboard controller and session command center, offering transport and basic track controls. The RD700GX even ships with Cubase LE so you can start making the most of your studio controller right out of the box.

Serious musicians can't afford to compromise on sound quality or playability. If you're ready to upgrade your stage rig from the outsized toy you're playing now, the Roland RD700GX is waiting.

For those who like to get inside an instrument and customize its sounds, the RD-GX's Piano Designer feature is your key to unlocking and personalizing the sound-set, down to the smallest details such as Hammer Noise, Damper Resonance, Duplex Scale and more. Ok... After buying/selling almost 10 guitars,... I recently purchased my Martin D-41 Special guitar... (done buying acoustic guitars)..... and now after buying the RD-700GX.... I'm done buying keyboards... (I've found the one I've always wanted).

Sound
I recently upgrade from a RD-700 (which I expanded with the SRX-03, SRX-11 cards). I'll write the following review in layman's terms...rather than using the fancy industry terms like "escapement, polyphony, switching velocity...etc.). Secondly, I don't consider myself a keyboard aficionado in comparison to those who play keyboard for a living... however I believe I have reasonably distinguishing sense of sound quality. While the RD-700 was & is a great stage piano, the RD-700GX takes the sound quality to a whole new dimension. I've played the GX through both my PA system & my Yamaha/Klipsh home entertainment system. The sound quality on the grands & EP's is simply stunning. Playing it through my home entertainment system with stereo 5-1 turned gives it an amphitheater like sound. It sounds like you have a grand piano right in the room with you. With the GX,.. you now have more sound design capabilities. In comparison to the RD-700, the RD-700GX sound quality (realism), sustain, and tailoring capabilities make the RD-700GX a great investment for both studio and live performance. The GX sound engine produces very realistic sound samples. The electronic pianos are very nice as read more well. While I used two SRX expansion cards in my RD700... I have no near term intentions of buying any SRX cards for the GX... for my applications... they're not needed with the GX's base capabilities.

Features
The only feature I would have liked are the built in speakers which Yamaha provides with the CP300. I'm still learning all of the GX capabilities, but the initial features which really stand out include: - ivory-like keyboard (make playing a true joy) - expanded tones - multiple outputs - USB 2.0 interface... (really enjoying this) - sound tailoring capabilities

Value
Expensive... but you get what you pay for.
