With Roland's SuperNATURAL piano engine, weighted Ivory Feel-G keyboard with escapement, and onboard speakers, the FP-4F is ready to play at home or onstage.

The Roland FP-4F Digital Piano proves that owning a serious, gig-worthy digital piano shouldn't mean dropping a small fortune on a cumbersome behemoth. It's got the tone and playability of a world-class grand piano, but it's light and compact enough to easily sling under one arm -- making it the perfect keyboard for the gigging player. Best of all, it's less expensive that it looks and sounds.

An Authentic Piano-Playing Experience

Sporting Roland's SuperNATURAL sound engine and an immaculately engineered 88-key weighted keyboard, the FP-4F feels and sounds like the real thing. The piano multi-samples are rich, spacious, and long, with 128-note polyphony ensuring that every note you plays decays naturally, whether you're playing quick arpeggios or somber chordal work.

The full dynamic range is represented beautifully, too; a characteristic you'll appreciate even more when you lay your hands on Roland's responsive Ivory Feel-G keyboard. The FP-4F reproduces the distinctive feel of an acoustic piano's escapement mechanism, in which the hammer immediately falls away after striking the strings so it doesn't interfere with the strings' vibration. When you press a key on the keyboard, you'll feel the same amount of resistance and weight as you would if you pressed a key on an acoustic piano. The keys are not only perfectly weighted -- substantial, yet quick and non-fatigue-inducing -- but they feature a gently graded weight increase, from treble to bass, just like on an acoustic read more piano's keyboard. It's a subtle design feature that you might not even notice if you're used to a real piano...and that's exactly the point.

Fits Anywhere, Travels Everywhere

At under 37 pounds, the Roland FP-4F is one of the most compact and convenient digital pianos in its class. It's absolutely perfect for the professional or semi-professional gigging pianist who's living in a bustling metropolis, the choral leader who needs to be able to fit their instrument in the back seat of their coupe, the music student who shares university housing with three other roommates, or...well, anyone who needs an amazing-sounding and -playing instrument that they can easily transport.

Adding to the portability factor is the FP-4F's built-in 2 x 12-watt speaker system. No lugging around a separate amp; the FP-4F is truly a self-contained instrument, and those speakers do ample justice to the keyboard's sounds (for those bigger gigs, you can still run your FP-4F through an amp or the house PA, thanks to its 1/4" stereo outputs). And the FP-4F is ruggedly built, too -- because why make a portable digital piano that can't withstand the rigors of transport? The Roland FP-4F boasts a burly steel chassis that still looks great.

Like Carrying Around Your Own Orchestra

The digital piano sounds by themselves are impressive enough, but Roland wanted to make the FP-4F more than just a one trick pony. In addition to the piano sounds, you've got classic electric piano tones, blues organs, pipe organs, strings, percussion -- 345 different sounds in all. By providing 80 different accompaniment patterns -- each with two variations -- the FP-4F turns your solo gig into an impressive one-man-band. Playing with great musicians makes you a better player, and the FP-4F's Session Partner feature is like having a seasoned rhythm section at your beck and call. If you like ad-libbing, the Session Partner feature is also a great way to build up or keep up your improvisational chops.

Should you choose to provide your own accompaniment, the FP-4F is outfitted with a pair of high-quality RCA inputs. Use them to route a CD or MP3 player through your FP-4F's speakers. A MIDI-over USB jack and standard 4-pin DIN MIDI I/O makes the keyboard even more versatile, turning it into a dynamic and responsive controller for software synthesizers and virtual instruments.

Any great instrument becomes a great partner in your musical career, but not all partners are as multi-talented, reliable, or -- let's be honest -- good-looking as the Roland FP-4F. It's a serious musician's digital piano.

The FP-4F's SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine combines the award-winning V-Piano technology with an exceptional 88-key stereo multi-sampling core. By extensively analyzing the characteristics of world-class concert pianos, they have faithfully replicated the unmatched tone color and expressiveness of a fine acoustic grand piano. SuperNATURAL Piano delivers the ultimate playing experience, with seamless tone variation according to touch, smooth and natural tone decay with no "looping," and maximum expressiveness in each individual key.

Ivory Feel-G Keyboard

Featuring Roland's acclaimed Progressive Hammer Action design with Escapement, the FP-4F's Ivory Feel-G keyboard inherits the functions, appearance, and texture of keyboards found on the flagship pianos. Thanks to the combination of sensor technologies and the SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine, the FP-4F offers expressiveness and performance that rivals that of high-end pianos.

The FP-4F's Session Partner provides rhythm and accompaniment patterns created by professional musicians, letting you play along with an onboard dynamic backing band! You can even have the FP-4F play chord changes and ad-libs, or add complete accompaniment to a sing-along piece during a live performance. You'll enjoy exploring the diverse range of built-in rhythm patterns, which are great song starters, as well as musical metronomes for improving your sense of timing.

With its support for USB flash memory, the FP-4F lets you conveniently store your recorded performances and keyboard settings. You can also download SMF and WAV files from your computer and play them via a USB memory key from the FP-4F, or connect a USB CD drive (Roland's CD-01A; sold separately) to blend your favorite audio CDs you're your keyboard performance; both are great ways to add backing tracks to a live performance or to learn to play along with pre-recorded songs. Additionally, you can employ the Center Cancel feature to minimize pre-recorded vocals or lead instruments for play-and sing-along fun, and use the Tempo Change feature to speed up or slow down a song without changing the pitch.
