The release of the Rode S1 represents a major step in the development of live performance microphones.
Having gained worldwide acceptance and recognition as one of the leading microphone designers and manufacturers, Rode has, up until the release of the S1, concentrated its design efforts on the studio and specialist recording markets.
"We were always being asked by our customers to give them the Rode studio sound they loved, for live stage performances.",said Peter Freedman, President of Rode Microphones in Sydney, Australia. "This is the ultimate vocal mic, pure and simple. That's what it was designed to be and that's what we've achieved.
?We started the project two years ago and found that there was a real need for a studio quality, hand held microphone that could handle the rigors of constant touring. There are other 'live' condenser mics out there but nothing like the S1. Record with it during the day and then take it to a gig at night; it's a killer for both applications.
"So confident of its performance and integrity, we gave the Rode S1 a 5 year parts and labour guarantee - even if it's accidentally damaged by the owner!"
The S1 features a true externally biased condenser transducer with a gold plated diaphragm, coupled to ultra low noise, surface mount, FET circuitry.
Designed and manufactured at Rode's state of the art facility in Sydney Australia, the Rode S1 is an example of our ongoing commitment to the development of microphones that address the demands of musicians.

Comes with a pouch and crystal bag to dry the head after use, they even include instructions on how to dry the crystal bag for continuous use.
Quality:
It's a heavier mic but very comfortable grip, it feels like you have a true piece of art in your hand and will not go unnoticed.
Value:
Think about it 300 bucks for a high performance microphone that would make even Ozzy Osbourne sound good today.
Desirability:
I have nothing more to say than try it, if you don't like it, you will probably end up making money on it with it's limited production.

Crystal sounds from this microphone, I have had experience with all makes of stage mics corded and cordless and none have compared to this quality of sound. This is a live mic, can also be used recording.
Support:
I did contact the company to relate to them how much i enjoyed singing with this microphone, never had a problem with it, you can beat this mic up and it won't have any problems.

Wind screen work to eliminate pop. The tight pattern nearly eliminates feedback even singing from in front of house speekers
Quality:
Very sturdy and comfortable. You feel confident just holding this gem.
Value:
Is TEN the best I can say. Its a steel.
Desirability:
The Nickle look with the Gold Dot is awsome, And as I mentioned it gives you confidence not just in the sound and feel but the look.
Sound:
True open clear sound. Powerful pickup without distortion
Support:
I have asked for advice on 24 Volt Phantom power (supplied by my BOSE PAS)VS the required 48 V that my Mackie Mixer supplies. No responce from RODE in over Two Weeks. However BOSE has supported their product with assistance on my RODE S-1. It works great with the 24 V
Overall:
With a Five Year Warrenty, are you kidding? I am a gadget freek and I like to have the best, the latest and greatest. So I do expect that this RODE S-1 will continue to fill the bill
