Don't record vocals or voiceover without one! Hang the 6" wide RaXXess Stoppit pop filter in front of your vocal microphone, and stop P-pops in their tracks.

In the recording studio, clean, clear vocal tracks are essential for a professional final product. Studio-quality microphones are very precise and extremely unforgiving with respect to the human voice. Their sensitive nature preserves every sonic detail, from the quietest breath-noise to the slightest deviation in pitch. With today's digital technology, many vocal issues can be corrected, but popping plosives are enough to confound even the most savvy sound engineer. Fortunately, RaXXess' pop filter provides a low-tech solution before it becomes a high-tech problem.

All About Plosives

What is a popping plosive, you ask? It's a fancy term for a quick burst of air. Certain vocal sounds, like the "P" in people, the "D" in double, and the "B" in bump all produce plosives. Hold your hand up to your mouth as you make these sounds, and you'll feel a little puff of air. This may not seem like much, but to a sensitive microphone, it's like a bomb just went off. Your pristine recording now contains track-ruining "pops." When plosives happen at the beginning or in the middle of a syllable, their effects bleed over onto the rest of the word. There's no good way to correct the problem, short of punching in a non-plosive take.

Flexible Positioning

The RaXXess Stoppit filter softens the puff of air while letting the sound travel through. You get clean, crisp syllables with no harsh pops. The six-inch screen is large enough to protect any microphone capsule, so you're free to swap read more out microphones and never worry about those pesky plosives. The adjustable steel clamp attaches to any mic stand. Use it on a straight stand or a boom arm, tailoring the setup to your vocalist's preferences. The flexible gooseneck allows you to adjust the distance between the filter and the mic. Most engineers find a range between one- and six-inches is the most effective. Experiment to see what gives you the best results. RaXXess pop filters have a secondary pivot joint that adjusts the screen angle to match the microphone's pickup axis. This additional level of control should provide you with plosive-free recordings for years to come. read less
