Perfect for beginners, this USB interface from PreSonus is a smaller, more manageable interface with all of the same great features as the bigger units.

Think of the 2-in, 2-out AudioBox 22VSL as a 2x2 StudioLive mixer! Same Class A XMAX preamps and 24-bit, 96 kHz converters. Same Fat Channel compression, limiting, semi-parametric EQ, high-pass filter, reverb, and delay effects - all with inaudible latency. Now you can monitor while recording with real-time effects! Bus-powered, compact, and rugged, AudioBox 22VSL ships with PreSonus Studio One Artist DAW (Mac/Windows) but works with virtually any recording software.

Features:

- 24-bit / 96k 2 x 2 USB 2.0 recording interface
- 2 Class A XMAX mic / instrument preamps
- 2 instrument inputs

- VSL (Virtual Studio Live): 4 x 2 DSP mixer with StudioLive 16.0.2 Fat Channel dynamics processing and EQ for each analog input and its DAW return and two stereo effects buses with reverb and delay
- Over 50 Fat Channel DSP presets for enhancing instrument and vocal recordings
- Headphone amplifier
- Analog monitor mixing with playback/Input mix control knob
- Clip lights for both channels

System requirements:

Below are the minimum computer-system requirements for the AudioBox 1818VSL.

Windows

- Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit)
- Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz processor or AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Turion) (2.8 GHz or faster recommended)
- 1 GB RAM (2 GB or more recommended)

Macintosh

- Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later (32- and 64-bit)
- Intel Core 1 Solo 1.5 GHz processor (Intel Core Duo or Intel Xeon processor recommended)
- 1 GB RAM (2 GB or more recommended)
- Windows and Macintosh Systems
- USB 2.0 Port
- Internet connection recommended
- DVD-ROM drive (required to install Studio One Artist)

Note that the speed of your processor, amount of RAM and size and speed of your hard drive will greatly affect the overall performance of your recording system. Also, a more powerful system (faster processor with more RAM) will allow for lower latency (signal delay) that you might experience while monitoring audio or MIDI signals.

Monitor resolution for both PC and Macintosh should be no lower than 1024x768 pixels.

"Great Bit of Hardware!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I bought this little device about a month ago and it is well worth the money, for the extra $50 over the standard AudioBox USB, you get 96k sample rate and the virtual studio live software. This little piece of software really helps with live mixing and monitor talkback, and you can even print effects from VSL into your DAW of choice. Along side this I also own a Presonus Firestudio Project which works great for drums and overhead pickup. Highly recommend this to anyone getting into the field of Audio Recording and production!
