Product Description

You can really hear Peavey's TransTube difference in this 100-watt head, feature-packed head. Our special Closeout price makes owning a versatile, powerful head more affordable than ever! This is a 2-channel amp with Peavey's T-Dynamics and Presence controls. Peavey's exclusive and patented TransTube technology really does create the sound, warmth, and "feel" of a great tube amp, utilizing solid-state amplification. The TransTube preamp section tailors the gain to meet the need for any amount of drive, from crystal clear to thick, smooth sustain.

The power amp reacts just like tubes by responding to the preamp with natural compression that increases as the amp gets louder. T-Dynamics control lets you dial the actual output of the amp, selecting any output level from full output down to 10% of full rated power. This lets you dial in a sound and maintain it at any volume level. Other features include 3-band EQ on each channel; a footswitchable effects loop so you can sconnect all your favorite stomp boxes or rack effects; built-in reverb; and more.

Customer Reviews
4.5 out of 5 (15 ratings) Rate and Review This Product
zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "Great value, good sound, USA made."
Sound: It can make any sound you need. It sounds more like a Fender to me. I have a Marshall MG100DFX and it sounds different. The Marshall is smoother and easier to get the sounds. But they both have their place. The Peavey will do country Fender twang, to rock and heavy metal, and if you can't get the sound you want you probably won't be happy with any amp. Match the ohms switch to the cabinet and it'll be fine. It seems that those who complain all the time about bad sounding amps are amatuers anyway. I haven't tried a Crate yet, but I bet I could make it sound good. Work with the knobs a while before you give up and say it is bad. Feature: It included a dual footswith which adds to the value. Being that it was made for this amp, it works, know what I mean. The amp IS NOT a master volume amp. Each channel must be set individually and I don't care too much for this kind of thing. But it is simple to reach back and turn two knobs, so what the heck. The T Dynamics do change the sound for the better. Quality: I have owned five Peavey amps prior to this one and it seems to be just as well built as before, maybe even better as it doesn't get very warm like some of the mid 80's Peaveys used to do. I hadn't purchased a Peavey for over seven years prior and I am hoping this one will not give me any trouble. Two of the five prior Peaveys were lemons and one of them I had to put a big aluminum heat sink on the back to keep it cool otherwise it would go into thermal shutdown. Value: This is a one time deal. Since this was a closeout item, Randall, Kustom, and Carvin would be a very good choice in the value department next time. Manufacturer Support: I had three experiences with music store/Peavey repairs. One was a quick and permanent fix, the other I took to two different Peavey authorized repair shops and they said it was OK when it wasn't, and that one is the one I put the heat sink on and fixed it myself. I think I had to do some reading at the time and recall that transistors "shutdown" when they get too hot so I fixed it with a heat sink. The Wow Factor: It looks good on top of my black vinyl 4/12 slant cab. Peavey has a good reputation with players. Overall: I won't sell it unless I am incapacitated and can't use it anymore. I will buy another brand next time just because I like differences. Why sell an amp (unless you are starving), you won't get half of what you paid. Never know when it might come in handy as a backup. If I lost it or it was stolen I would want another, but it probably won't be available as it is a closeout item. I will try a Randall, Carvin, Kustom, even a Crate; I like to see/hear for myself. I think it is bad luck to own two identical kinds of anything. That never works for me. One of them always goes bad. I rated it a 9 because I am never happy with anything, ever! I just put up with it! There is always something better somewhere.

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "Very nice for the price. Quite versatile. For warmer tones, plug pedals."
Sound: Close to a tube amp tone. Although, to get an even closer tube tone, i recomand the use of pedals such as the Ibanez tube screamer to add the warmth the solid state amps don't have. I use a Ibanez Turbo Tube Screamer (TS9DX) pedal set to Turbo mode, and i can get a NOFX sound !! For that, I set the preamp gain to 1 and the pedal volume at 10. I can aslo get a SUM 41 tone with the preamp gain at 4 and the pedal vol at 2.5. I don't think we can get a better sounding amp for this price. Feature: I mostly set the presence and T-Dynamics nobs to 10. The EQs are efficient and quite accurate. The Trash button is usfull when you don't want bass. When in OUT position you can have a good low end tone (i have 2 Marshall 1912 cabs that sound great with it). The 2 inputs (low gain/high gain) can be usefull if you don't want much of its own distortion : i use low gain input when i play NOFX at high volumes, and i use high gain input when i play in my room (volume at 0.5 !) so that it distorts nicely at low volumes. Quality: Good quality. Although some little complains : . Using the remote switch pedal, I can hear a little crack sound when you switch between clean/crunch channels and FX on/off.. but i think most amps do that too.. . To my ear the clean chanel is very flat. I use a EA Memory Man to add slight chorus or echo to fatten my sound. Then it sounds great. . I noticed a very audible decrease in volume if i put my tube screamer (or any distortion pedal) in the FX loop. I don't know why. Doing so i get a lot of noise (hum) and my volume is like devided by 10.. i haven't grasped why the hell i can't get any pedal sound correctly in the FX loop.. Anyway i don't use FX then. I plug my pedals from my guitar to the amp in the normal inputs jacks. Value: To me, one of the best sounding solid state amps. Manufacturer Support: Dunno... it's a 2nd hand so i believe im screwed if it fries. The Wow Factor: Not expensive at all. If you have it and just like it but don't love it, buy a ibanez turbo tube screamer pedal for instance, and you will sound tube. Overall: Great great alternate to a tube amp. To my mind this amp is for guys who can't afford a real tube amp.. and/or for the ones who want to do bi-amping (that's my case) and don't want to buy 2 JCM 2000 TSL (or so) for. Remember : to get punk rock tone out of it (yes you CAN), additional pedals are required (read my sound section). Although, without pedals you can still get some Sum 41-like tones but without tube warmth.. It will sound kinda solid (this is a solid state amp huh). I'm thinking about buying another one for bi-amping : I have a EA Stereo Memory Man and i would like to sound stereo.
