Peavey PR15N Passive Unpowered Loudspeaker (1x15")

No longer available at zZounds
These Peavey passive loudspeakers are built to move, with a heavy-duty 15" woofer in a strong molded polypropylene enclosure that weighs just 32 pounds. Unpowered. Requires separate power amplifier.

To build the Peavey PR-15N passive loudspeaker, Peavey loaded a powerful 15" woofer into a tough, lightweight polypropylene cabinet -- creating a PA enclosure that's easy to move. There's no way around the PA, but Peavey can help lighten the load, at least. Their PR-series loudspeakers deliver huge sound without all the excess baggage.

Features:

- Two-way passive PA loudspeaker with 15" woofer and 1.4" titanium RX14 HF driver
- Handles 400 watts program, 800 watts peak power
- Lightweight molded polypropylene cabinet with pole mount cup
- Heavy-duty metal grille
- 90 x 40 constant directivity horn built into the enclosure
- Heavy-duty crossover
- Tweeter protection

Strong, Light, Polypropylene Enclosure

At just 32 pounds each, PR-15N speakers are perfect for the working musician. You can carry your entire front-of-house rig all at once, saving time, energy, and trips to the van. While some loudspeakers use small, underpowered drivers to save weight, Peavy takes a different approach. The enclosure is molded using a strong, lightweight polypropylene. This material is rigid and durable to resist the road abuse all gig-worthy gear must face, yet light enough to accommodate full-sized drivers and still make weight. Heavy wooden cabinets just can't compare. You won't believe something so light can sound so good -- until you hear then in action.

15-inch Woofer

Plug these passive speakers into your favorite power amp, and the first thing you'll notice is the rich, read more full-range bass response. This comes from the PR-15N's beefy fifteen-inch woofer. Big drivers like this one aren't usually practical for lightweight speakers, because of their massive magnet structure. With its heavy-duty two-inch voice coil, this woofer delivers all your low-end tone to the crowd with warmth and punch.

Titanium-diaphragm Tweeter

The bass is definitely impressive, and Peavey's RX14 tweeter handles the highs with the same level of professionalism. Its 1.4-inch titanium diaphragm offers clean, detailed treble frequencies through the upper-end of the spectrum. The sound is focused through Peavey's constant-directivity horn, which is molded right into the enclosure. This horn helps spread out the sound waves, increasing the projection and improving the sonic imaging. If you run your front-of-house mix in stereo, you'll hear ping-pong delays, sweeping echoes, and other effects come through with clarity and precision. The PR-15N's sturdy crossover evens out frequencies between the two-way drivers, providing smooth, balanced midrange response. No one wants lightweight speakers that don't sound good. Peavey gives you the best of both.

Plenty of Power

If you gig regularly, you never know what the next venue will bring your way. Some rooms are small and intimate, packing the crowd in tight, while others are much larger, looking empty even when all your fans show up. You need to fill the space with sound, regardless of its size. That means PA speakers with big-time wattage. Rated at 400 watts of program power and 800 watt peaks, PR-15N loudspeakers have the volume and headroom to fit any situation. Crank the music up at the larger halls for distortion-free sound reproduction, or drop it down low at the local coffee shop. You can use your PA to add a little vocal boost over an acoustic guitar, or run the whole band direct for a tight, controlled mix. Either way, these speakers give you detailed, accurate sound at any volume.

Long-lasting Reliability

Since the PA system is all that stands between your music and your audience, you've got to know it's always ready to go. Fortunately, Peavey's solid reputation for long-lasting value is clearly evident in PR-series speakers. For starters, onboard tweeter-protection circuitry helps guard against damage from feedback, dropped microphones, and other unexpected surges in power. Next, the fifteen-inch woofer is covered with a steel-mesh grille, shielding the speaker from unfortunate accidents involving mic stands, guitar necks, and the occasional beer bottle. It is powder-coated to provide a professional appearance on stage, even under the harshest conditions. These speakers are a fantastic deal at this price, and you can count on rock-solid performance for years to come.

All things considered, there are too many advantages, looks, sound, weight, price, the Peavey name... no going wrong with these.

Sound
Sounds fine. I'm not sure what the others were compaining about. They're $200 speakers. I subscribe to a couple ProSound forums, and whenever someone is looking for a low-cost speaker that's a good value, this speaker comes up every time.

Features
1/4" only no Speakon, but that's fine with me. NO piezo tweeter, they've got a good compression driver, and good protection there... I've seen the cab light up quite a few times as a result of feedback, and they're still working perfectly.

Ease of Use
Can't get easier, light as a feather (almost).

Quality
For the price, I don't know what out there is better. And for any price, they just sound good enough for anything I've used them for, short of a large band in a large venue, for which I just brought other speakers, but who knows, these may have done okay.

Value
I've gotta give a ten here, where I can take the price completely into consideration. There is no better value for $200, and I shop carefully.

Manufacturer Support
I've never needed any, but Peavey's support is known to be good. I belong to a couple pro-sound forums, and peavey engineers are always there helping people... great read more company with great product and staff.

The Wow Factor
Actually, they've got me so spoiled with their looks, light-weight and good sound, I don't know what I'd do without them. I've got much-more expensive speakers, and they rarely go out since I've gotten these.
