Peavey Replacement Basket for 1505 KADT BW Black Widow Speaker

Made for easy home installation, this replacement speaker fits the Peavey 1505 KADT Black Widow and can take as little as 5 minutes to install.

Field-replacement baskets are a standard feature of Peavey's Low Rider, Black Widow(R) and BWX speakers. It takes as little as 5 minutes to change out a Peavey designed and approved replacement basket and you are back in business. If you ever get a speaker re-coned from other companies, it can be a rough experience. First you have to find a box and ship the speaker back to the company then wait 6-8 weeks to get it back. And the speaker may never sound the same.

- It's easy enough to do it yourself
- No hassle, no waiting
- Factory-fresh performance

I think it's great that Peavey designs their speakers to be so easily repaired. There's no way a professional repair shop would fix a damaged cone or voice coil for under $100, but you can do it yourself in about ten minutes using this replacement item. The only word of warning is that cannot skip the step of cleaning the voice coil gap in the magnet before you insert the new coil on the basket assembly. The magnets are made of very brittle stuff, and there will probably be little flakes of metal stuck all over the magnet - they look like ash. If any are in the gap, the voice coil will scrape them, and the horrible scratching sound will be very audible thanks to the big ol' speaker cone that it's attached to. The solution is to carefully remove all the metal flakes you can from the gap; I used a flashlight and Scotch tape. Of course, the magnet will hang on to the flakes, so you have to be careful to grab them as soon as you can reach them and be sure to lift them all the way out. Do that, however, and the rest of the repair job is a snap. The only down-side for us is that our repaired SP-2 PA speaker now sounds much better than the other one - we might have to get another 1505 basket for that one, too!
