Famed session guitarist David Grissom got his first Paul Reed Smith guitar in the mid '80s. In 2007, the Maryland-based guitar maker came out with the first David Grissom DGT signature model. Today, the collaboration continues with the PRS DGT Standard, featuring an all mahogany body for added tonal depth. With custom PRS pickups, tremolo arm, and a splendid array of cosmetic highlights, the DGT Standard offers all the tools and tones Grissom needs for his busy schedule touring and recording with the likes of the Dixie Chicks, the Allman Brothers Band, and John Mellencamp. And, of course, the DGT Standard is backed by the same superb build-quality and staggering attention to detail that PRS brings to all its guitars.

Versatile Tone for a Versatile Guitarist

Building on the 2007 edition of the PRS DGT, the DGT Standard offers a huge range of tonal options with a pair of custom PRS pickups and an all mahogany body. Adding to the immense tonal capabilities are a push-pull coil-tapping switch on the tone knob and a sleek tremolo arm on the bridge. For a session player like Grissom, having a range of tones right at your fingertips is absolutely essential. Or as Grissom himself describes:

"The DGT Standard has been in the works for the last year, and I'm really excited PRS is doing a run of these guitars in a bunch of cool colors. My first PRS was an '85 all-mahogany Seafoam Green Standard, so this guitar brings everything full circle for me. After playing my DGT's almost read more exclusively for the last 5 years, I wanted something that had all the features they worked so hard on with the original DGT, but with the sonic character of an all-mahogany guitar. The all-mahogany guitars are more focused in the mids as a general rule, and have a nice chime and growl as well. Paul and I both agreed that doing an all-mahogany version was the ideal way to get a great variation on the basic DGT without sacrificing any of the soul and features of the original. I got the first prototype at NAMM this year, and I have to say that PRS hit it out of the park once again!"
