Overview

The Palmer PDI-03 speaker simulator combines load impedance, a signal splitter and DI box especially designed for guitars. All functions are optimized for live and recording applications.

Instead of being connected to a loudspeaker, the PDI-03 is connected directly to the amplifier output. The signal is no longer picked up by a microphone, but after passing through a special filter section is fed directly into a mixing console, tape recorder, etc. This permits power amplifiers to be operated to saturation without troublesome volume problems.

Two switches select between the 9 filter presets simulating various types of speakers and enclosures. Open back 2 x 12" combo or 4 x 12" cabinet characteristics and the punch of a full-out stack with a graphic EQ "V" setting can be selected as well as "American" or "British" speakers and ultra brightness.

Four paralleled unfiltered outputs are available for further processing. Both filter and line out level are adjustable.

For live monitoring, speakers may be connected while the reactive load is automatically switched off. Power handling capacity is 100W RMS without speakers.

I play in a classic rock band. My amp is an '89 JCM 800 2205. I have a 4X12 cab with vintage 30's but man is does that suck to lug around. So I got the Palmer to alleviate hauling that big old Cab around. The Palmer is high a quality build, and sounds great through my EV ZLX15's I use for mains. It sounds like a cabinet. You have 9 different settings you can use, which really simplifies setup. Once you get it set, you forget that you aren't playing through a cabinet anymore. We use in ears for monitoring so there is 0 stage volume. I love this unit for its sound, its quality and the simplicity. This is about 2/3 the price of a Two notes torpedo, and much easier to use. Nothing against Two Notes product, because it is a fine piece as well. Admittedly, I am not a knob tweaker, so that is why I chose the Palmer. I have played through both and unless you are an absolute audiophile, you will not hear a $300 dollar difference between the Palmer and Two notes.
