An Orange Tiny Terror customized to Jim Root's specs, this amp head can take on more than just metal -- its warm tube distortion works for nearly any style.

For such a compact and lightweight head, the Orange Signature 4 Jim Root Terror boasts a loud and powerful all-tube metal tone. Jim Root's work with Slipknot and Stone Sour encapsulates a sought-after metal and rock sound with its own character. Your Signature 4 head sports dynamic three-band EQ controls, a master volume knob, and a vibrant master gain knob. This Orange head is dressed in vintage colors, with the vintage Orange logo with Jim Root's signature on the front panel. Pictures instead of words mark the function of each control, and a 15-watt/7-watt switch lets you control your wattage output for different scenarios. This compact head displays dynamic gain levels and a lot of punch for its size.

Based on Root's Rockerverb's Lead Channel

Orange took Jim Root's Rockerverb 100 amp lead channel and packed all that punch into this small all-tube head. Though Root's sound is heavy and akin to metal, this head won't be pigeonholed with its dynamic gain and three-band EQ controls.

A Colorful Tonal Range from a Few Controls

The controls on your head's front panel may be minimal, but you get a broad range of sound without any unnecessary flair. Your three-band EQ really pushes/pulls your highs, mids, and lows dramatically, and your gain control pushes your drive through significantly different stages of tonal breakup. Also, you don't have to stick with metal. You can get bluesy tone, a rock sound, or even a funky bright tone all from this compact head. This beast read more really packs a hot signal with a dynamic tonal reach that'll keep you busy honing in on your own tone.

Best Paired with Orange's Signature Cab

This head works best with Orange's Signature cab. Its Orange Voice Of The World speakers nicely project your different stages of gain break-up, but your Signature 4 Jim Root Terror head has two 8 ohm and one 16 ohm speaker outs for different cab options. With this head's dynamic high-gain output, you can't go wrong.

Cool Vintage Look

Orange went with a vintage outer casing design with this little monster of a head. You have the instantly recognizable Orange name, the vintage Orange logo, and simple control knobs. Your knobs include pictures to reference their functions, rather than words or labels. Jim Root's signature is also featured on the front panel just above your bass EQ control.

Choose Between 7 or 15 Watts

If you still want that warm tube in a quieter setting for rehearsing or recording, your Signature 4 Jim Root Terror head has a switch for a lower wattage setting of 7 watts. Your dynamic gain control will still give you a wide variety of power and break up on this lower setting -- leaving you with more tonal options to get out of this lunchbox-sized beast.

Orange Signature #4 Jim Root Terror Head

The Signature #4 Jim Root Terror Head is modeled after the Dirty Channel on the same amp that Jim Root plays in the studio and on the road: the Orange Rockerverb 100. This all-tube, 15-watt amp is capable of far more than high gain rock and metal though. With a full 3-band EQ players will find it easy to dial in everything from vintage rock, blues and beyond. The addition of a tube-driven FX loop allows the user to take the tone in any direction they want.

Features:

- Single channel
- All valve, high gain 4 stage preamp
- Valve FX loop
- Gig bag included

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I had a couple of low-wattage guitar heads (Valve Junior - which I still have - and the Jet City Picovalve). Neither of them was loud enough to keep up with my brother's habit of turning up his bass amp after every song. Not any more! And on the 7 watt setting, I can even practice at home without the wife yelling down the stairs that it's "too loud!"

Sound
There are a lot of reviews that complain about a lack of cleans. REALLY? (Look up how to use "gain" and "volume" knobs.) If you're looking for "amplified acoustic" clean you won't find it here, but for warm cleans that will get you to "growl" with a little pick attack or a nudge of the volume knob this is NIRVANA! And the multiple gain stages mean you can get downright NASTY with this beast. Played through a 2x12 stuffed with Eminence neo speakers (Tonkerlite and Lil' Texas) I get all the range of tones I could ever want.

Features
Effects loop, British-style tone stack (bass, mids, treble), multiple impedance speaker outs and the 15/7 watt switch all add up to an incredibly versatile package.

Ease of Use
Takes pedals extremely well. Dial in the clean tone you want, then stack your drive pedals in front of the amp. Put your modulation pedals in the tube-driven effects loop and voila!, you are making amazing tones fill whatever space you choose to grace with your dulcet tones!

Quality
Rock solid, built read more like a tank, completely portable and plays well with others (like my aforementioned 2x12 cab). This is an absolute keeper!

Value
Well, I bought a "scratch and dent" which had been returned and it showed up in perfect condition with all literature and the plushly padded carry bag for under $500. I've looked around plenty and have not seen anything that compares to this little box of magic at that price!

Manufacturer Support
Haven't needed to use Orange tech support but I'm not worried: their reputation is bullet proof.

The Wow Factor
Looks cool (though I'm not at all into Slipknot I have to say that Jim Root does have kick ass taste in amps and guitars). Surprises everyone at the "jam" when this little monster starts to growl! Ya...it has WOW coming out all over the place!

Musical Background:
Playing guitar for 40+ years, mostly at home or the occasional jam.

Musical Style:
Rock (I guess it qualifies as "classic" rock) so let's go with that.
