Orange Crush 20 Guitar Combo Amplifier

Crank out the jams on this 20-watt tone machine! Use a footswitch to alternate between the revamped preamp's clean and dirty channels for max versatility.

The twin-channel Orange Crush 20 amplifier takes an uncompromising approach to guitar tone and puts it in a compact and portable package. Orange's high gain, 4-stage preamp design serves up a hugely versatile palette of rich distorted tones with a commanding delivery that belies the amp's modest footprint.

Forget any preconceived notions of practice amps. Made in Orange's state-of-the-art factory, the overhauled Orange Crush range sets a higher standard for quality, introducing players of all levels to the essence of Orange.

Orange's mission was not to reinvent the wheel, but to buck the trend - you won't find any sterile digital amp modeling here. Building on the huge success of the critically acclaimed Crush Pro models, Orange incorporated the same high gain, 4 stage preamp design into the Crush range.

This means responsive overdrive and detailed levels of saturation never before heard in a practice amplifier. Powerful analogue circuits create amps with 'gut punch' tones which react like their bigger brothers in the Orange family, whilst their CabSim feature faithfully emulates the muscle of an Orange 4x12" cabinet through the headphone output.

After a really good experience with the Orange Micro Dark head I decided to try the Orange Crush 20 combo. (My Vox AC15C1 will never be mistaken for lightweight or portable. #HERNIA)I'm guilty of writing some Tolstoy-esque reviews so I will use two just words; 'Wow' & 'Impressive'.Yes, it's loud.Yes, it looks seriously cool. (I bought the orange Orange.)The clean channel is nice but I didn't buy this for 'nice'. I bought this for crunch, as in "KAH-RUNCH!"The four stage "dirty" channel is capable of everything from a subtle overdrive to full-on thunder.I tested the amp using an Epiphone Les Paul Custom w/SD "Hot Rods" and a Fender Hendrix Monterey Strat and the amp seems to prefer humbuckers. Single coils sound really good too but this amp truly lets loose with a double coil pickup. The three band EQ allows for some nice tone shaping but be careful with the treble control. It can get really bright. My preferred setting is on the dirty channel with the volume "dimed" and the gain set to about "10:00". I use a Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion and the end result is a HUGE sounding roar that is guaranteed to satisfy any fan of Randy Rhoads. The bottom line is that for the money you would be hard pressed to top this little beauty. If you're also looking at the Marshall MG series and can't decide between this or the Marshall, please TRUST ME. The MG has nothing on this amp. (I've owned two MG series amps. I sold one and gave away the other.)I've been playing for forty years and I've never heard read more a solid state amp that sounded this good.
