Sound: This is a fully customizable VST and standalone. There are some samples that are just so so, but this is the best you are going to find for drums (outside of playing real drums, but even then, you won't have THIS MUCH sound). Feature: Although there are many great features, the greatest one is the way that ALL of them are complimented by being able to add your own samples. This is EXACTLY what you would expect from NI if they were to go out and create a drum sampler... I've downloaded about 50 different VSTi for drums in the past few years, but none have been THIS useful. Great presets, adjust the sounds you don't like, if you can't fix the pre-loaded samples to your liking, replace them with your own, and it can work on 127 keys? THAT'S A BIG EF'in DRUMSET!!! Ease of Use: It's kind of split here. On one end, you can learn enough to put this to use on a track in about an hour (including the actual writing of the piece). So it can be useful almost immediately. But when dealing with a software that is this powerful, it's bound to have complexities, as this is what makes it powerful. And understanding and mastering these complexities takes time, but is well worth it. But out of the box, this thing is useful, and just gets better and better the longer you own it, as you learn more and make it more powerful thru knowledge... Knowledge IS power... Quality: Of the 50 something I have used, and literally hundreds that I've demo'd over the years, this is BY FAR the best... Seriously, don't waste your money elsewhere. If you stick with making music and keep upgrading, eventually you will end up with Battery... So you might as well pay the 200 now, rather than 80 for some crap program, then 100 for a decent one, 140 later on for another, and THEN the 200 for battery. This is professional grade. Native Instruments, as a company, pride themselves on being the best at what they do, and this is no exception. This is honestly a steal for $200. I would have easily paid $400 for this, it's a no brainer. Value: like i said, easily worth 400, while at 500 it would still be a great purchase. I think I'd have to stop believing it's worth the price at around 650... so like I said, it's a STEAL at 200. Manufacturer Support: Haven't dealt with them on Battery. But I did have an issue with FM8 a couple months ago, as my serial was not working. The problem was solved in about 2 hours, via email. Also had an issue with the XPress Keys that they included with acid pro 5 years and years ago. After fighting with sony for 3 weeks about it, I finally contacted NI, and the issue was resolved in a day. It's actually this very customer support experience that prompted my to first purchase Reaktor, then Absynth. After falling in love with the integrity this company has and the passion they have for making high quality instruments, I went on to add FM8, Kore 2, and Battery. There is no going wrong with NI, they are the real deal...

Sound: The sound is a bit mechanical at first. HOWEVER, you can greatly improve the "real" feel of the kits with the Humanizing feature and by adjusting the velocity of the notes in the pattern on your midi track. A big minus for me was the "squeaky clean", perfectly produced, samples. I like my drums to be a little gritty. However, I'm going to solve this by buying other samples and recording my own. That's the MAJOR ADVANTAGE of this program over Addictive Drums, you can add in your own samples. Feature: A wonderfully diverse array of processing effects and settings. If you are a drummer or like to customize your own sounds (i.e., it doesn't need to be perfect out of the box), this is the sampler for you. It is extremely FLEXIBLE. However, if you are inexperienced, need prearranged patterns, or want perfection out of the box, I would go for Addictive Drums or even EZdrummer. Ease of Use: It is very easy for me to use, but I have been using Battery for several years. If you are a novice, it takes some time to really learn how you can take advantage of the features it offers. If you are determined, it's not impossible to learn and you will be glad that you put the effort in. Quality: Excellent quality. The interface is very organized and efficient. The only glitch so far is that some of the different mallets on the Multi-stick Kit aren't working. I'm working on resolving this, but it's not a major issue. Value: This thing is an amazing bit of software for around 100 bucks!!! Manufacturer Support: Haven't had to deal with them yet. But, setup was easy. You just have to follow the directions and install the software in the prescribed order. The Wow Factor: I have it and I would buy it again and again (at the current price). Overall: There is always room for improvement in the samples and some of of the 'ease of use' areas. However, this program is very flexible, very usable, and an especially good tool to own if you are an experienced drummer or a discriminating producer.
