I have been playing 12-string acoustic guitar for many years. 12-strings tend to be heavy on treble, light on bass. I had settled on Dean Markley medium gauge strings in order to boost the bass and had been purchasing them for years at Daddy's Junky Music in Portland, ME (sadly, no longer in business). Upon my return from a lengthy sojourn in Oregon, I discovered that Daddy's was no longer stocking the Dean Markleys because, evidently, I was the only one using them and I'd been gone for three years. The salesman recommended the Martin Marquis 12-String 80/20 Strings because, although labeled as "light" gauge they are a few thousandths heavier than most other brands. I changed the strings, began tuning Blondie (Dean Tradition 12-string) up, and by the time I got her to concert pitch I could hear the difference in both tone and timbre. Nothing short of remarkable. Blondie had been reborn! I have never been a "captive of brand names" but when it comes to quality and excellence - Martin certainly lives up to its reputation with these strings. I highly recommend them.
