The Martin DCX1E gives you classic Martin tone and modern Martin construction, with Fishman Presys Plus electronics to recreate your unplugged sound.

Few guitar makers carry a legacy as rich as Martin's. With the DCX1E, Martin offers the classic tenets of a dreadnought body shape with mahogany construction. At the same time, the innovative use of new materials and the inclusion of a Fishman Presys Plus electronic system keeps this guitar firmly focused on the future. Combined, the DCX1E offers the best of old and new at one outstanding price.

Trustworthy Construction

The Martin DCX1E is constructed from high-pressure laminate wood back and sides that perfectly complement its solid Sitka spruce top. Solid wood construction lets the DCX1E age and mature in sound as you play it. High-pressure laminate wood made from wood fibers provide the same sturdy construction of solid woods but without the depletion of trees needed to harvest them. Martin doesn't cut corners and knows that professionals and amateurs both need access to guitars that will last them a lifetime. The DCX1E features a stratabond neck with a low oval shape for increased player playing comfort and a micarta fretboard for easy movement around it.

Fishman Electronics

Fishman's Presys Plus electronics round out the guitar. The Fishman Presys Plus allows you to recreate the Martin DCX1E's unplugged sound on stage without the piezo quacky-ness and filtered sound you get from lower quality acoustics. The Martin DCX1E's electronics let you dial in your own tone with built-in volume, bass and treble controls.

Martin DCX1E Dreadnought Cutaway

The dreadnought cutaway DCX1E includes an installed Fishman Presys Plus sound reinforcement system. This system lets you connect to a mixer or recorder for the accurate, pure reproduction of your acoustic sound. Its Solid Spruce top and HPL back & sides produce lots of volume and punch. The Classic 4 Sonicore Onboard Preamp system gives you some impressive features and control over the sound, beyond the usual bass and treble. It's equipped with a Sonicore pickup and Switchjack, volume control slider, active bass, midrange, treble and brilliance slider controls, low battery LED, and easy access "pull-out" housing.

Martin Guitar has long recognized the serious nature of the earth's dwindling resources and has focused attention on alternative materials. At Martin, they're committed to making guitars that are within reach of every aspiring guitarist.

Martin's breakthrough 'X-Series' features guitars that are constructed with a combination of highly compressed wood fibers (high-pressure laminate, called HPL) and traditional tonewoods. They've found HPL to be an extremely durable and workable material. Martin has crafted ways to build traditional Martin shapes with HPL that yield incredibly long-lasting, affordable guitars. What's more, they've managed to build them so they possess the "famous" Martin sound and playability found in their more expensive guitars.

"Good at twice the price!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought this to be my main acoustic. I didn't want to fall into the trap of spending too much money to be too afraid to play my baby. So this instrument fits the bill nicely.
Sound
When I purchsed this guitar I played about 12 different makes and models before choosing this one. Overall this had the best sound. It even had a decent sound when compared to a Martin that was 3 times the price.
Features
The subtleness of this guitar are brilliant. I like the natural finish, the lack of fret markers on the fingerboard enhances rather than detracts from this. The tuners are good, although the nut could do with some lubricant added in the store setup. The pickups work well, although I'm yet to use them for a gig or jamming.
Ease of Use
How is a quality instrument ever hard to use?
Quality
I'd say that for the money this instrument is hard to beat. You can get better sounding and (simmilar) playing guitars, but they are far more expensive. The spruce top and HPL sides and back are terrific for this price range.
Value
When it outshines more expensive instruments you know its good value.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had a problem to send to the company.
