I have owned a D28 for about twenty years and really love it. Then I played a D42. Wow! Mind you I never met a Martin dreadnought I didn't like. They all sound good in their own way. But the 42 is not only a work of art cosmetically, but the tone is like no other guitar I've owned. Great projection, pronounced lows and highs. Not as dark and mid-rangey as my 28. My wife bought it off Zounds in November as a birthday gift, and after having it for four months it is opening up and sounding better every day. Like I found with the 28, you really don't know what you have until you play the tar out of it. With the 42 I could not be more pleased. And the neck plays with such ease! I have it strung with John Pearse 13-56 phosphor bronze and quite frankly have never heard such sweet sounds come out of any guitar, bar none. All I can say is: don't pick one up because you won't be able to put it down. Pricey, but worth it, and zZounds will work with you on an interest free payment plan. My wife put a couple grand down and split it up over 12 months. You can't beat it.
