Mapex MPX Steel Piccolo Snare Drum

The small size and steel construction of this piccolo snare create a biting, snappy tone for any genre of music.

The Mapex MPX Piccolo snare drum is a great second snare drum for today's drummer looking for awesome sound at a value price. Its 1.0mm steel shell and Remo heads give it everything you need for a great addition to your kit.

I'll start off by saying , I bought this snare for a bright more higher pitched sound, to match my mini jungle/bop kit I use for two man shows in Diners, cafe's and social clubs. I knew at this price I wasn't getting a Starclassic Bubinga (my kit and snare for large full band shows). I was shocked at the range of tuning it allowed, the sound it produced, and the pleasant ring (not a cheap buzz or vibration). Cons: cheap head, but not horrible and was made by Remo (I replaced it with coated reverse dot by Remo) Throw off was not the greatest but very functional and works for less stressful applications (lighter playing and minor adjustments periodically and it's not a problem). Chains were a bit lower quality (but again is fixed as stated in regards to the throw off). (I changed the chain and batter head). The hoops were standard (not cast but at least they put Teflon/silicon (not sure which) washers under the lugs to prevent slip. Great pop, very articulate, bright n snappy. Buzz rolls are crisp. Rim shot sounds great too. I'm very pleased with this purchase. I have not owned mapex products before but my buddies claim they have good customer service and at this price, I could not pass it up. I have been lurking around the net and shops and this IMHO opinion was the best piccolo I found in this price range. I would recommend this to all beginner/intermediate percussionist! And as a great second snare for the seasoned pro as well!
