Mackie SRM550 Powered Speaker (1600 Watts, 1x12")

No longer available at zZounds
With 1600 watts on tap and Mackie's feedback-destroying DSP modes built in, the 12-inch SRM550s make fantastic mains or monitors for your portable PA system.

The Mackie SRM550 powered speaker delivers 1600 Watts in a truly compact and portable design. Featuring a 12-inch high-output LF driver, the SRM550 offers slightly less bass response than the SRM650, its sibling speaker -- so the SRM550 is more suitable for speech applications or smaller venues.

The SRM550 makes an excellent satellite top as part of a stereo speaker pair, and it will work well with an external subwoofer in a full-range setup. Part of the SRM series, the SRM550 employs the latest innovations in Mackie's patented high-definition audio processing systems to offer truly exceptional sound clarity.

1600 Watts Through a 12-inch Woofer

The LF driver in the SRM550 is a 12-inch speaker with a 2.6-inch voice coil. It employs an all-ferrite magnet and a paper diaphragm. The HF driver is a 1.4-inch titanium dome tweeter.

Two Separate XLR-1/4" Combo Inputs

The I/O section on the rear panel gives you 2 x XLR-1/4" combination jacks for handling a variety of inputs. Each has its own Gain control. The 2nd input also has stereo RCA jacks.

Speaker-Protecting, Feedback-Destroying DSP Onboard

The Mackie SRM series benefits from the presence of their proprietary High-Definition Audio Processing. This works actively to assure that you get smooth frequency response during performance. The system is further reinforced by the SmartProtect DSP that monitors for level surges that might damage your amp or read more speakers, and de-attenuates the signal accordingly. You can access a super useful and effective Feedback Destroyer via the rear panel.

Speaker Modes for Every Application

PA Speaker Mode: This mode is full range, but focuses on mid-range clarity where vocals often reside.
Soloist Speaker Mode: This mode features a low frequency roll-off to get rid of unwanted thumps and adds boost and sparkle to mid-range and high frequencies. This mode is perfect for plug-and-play singer-songwriters.
DJ Speaker Mode: This mode bumps the lows and highs with a mild tuck to the mids, perfect for music playback.
Monitor Speaker Mode: This mode features a low frequency roll-off and a reduction around 2 kHz to ensure maximum gain before feedback in monitor applications.

Wood Cabinets, Built to Last

The SRM550's cabinet is an all-wood design, internally braced to be super-strong and resist wear on the road. The speaker's trapezoidal design makes it great as an onstage monitor for guitarists, keyboardists or vocalists, too.

This small 12 inch speaker is compact, light, and yes... powerful. Bass is punchy and tight and not as boomy as the 15 model....but if you need extra bass then a subwoofer in this line is perfect combination. The highs and mids are warm/crisp at moderate volumes. I never turned them up all the way... its too loud and can hurt the ears. Its very easy to use with two channels with even a RCA input. It has a feedback button.. I don't really know how to use it.. but its there. Its a great speaker overall.
