From Our Catalog
Since its introduction, the Pandora series has been acclaimed by guitarists and bassists for its high-quality sound, versatile functionality, and superb user interface - all in an amazingly compact package. And now, the new PX4D joins the series. The PX4D combines both guitar and bass functionality into a single unit, and delivers a major leap in functionality as well. Its comprehensive range of sounds includes vintage amps and a wide range of cabinets, as well as effects ranging from classic to distinctively unique. The PX4D is a great choice not only for practicing, but for any situation that demands great guitar or bass sound, including recording and live performance.

Main Features
Numerous high-quality effects using 'REMS' modeling technology are built in.

Features a total of 158 effect types ranging from realistic amp sounds - including high-quality cabinets - to sophisticated effects.

200 programs provided - 100 preset and 100 user programmable

Offers up to seven effects simultaneously

Knob-based interface for quick and intuitive editing.

The Phrase Trainer function offers a great way to learn by ear or to practice soloing.

One hundred rhythm and bass patterns cover a variety of styles with realistic PCM sound.

AUX IN jack lets you play along with external CD, MD, or MP3 audio sources.

Key Transpose lets you shift the key of an audio source that's being input.

A Bass Canceller function removes the sound of the bass from an external audio source.

The built-in Auto Chromatic Tuner also provides a Mute function for silent tuning.

Semi-transparent LCD illuminates the characters in inverse video when backlit.

Two-way power supply lets you use either batteries or a separately sold AC adaptor.

High-quality Effects
The PX4D contains 158 effects that deliver vintage amp sounds and much more. From high-end tube amps to rare vintage amps and classic favorites, the 25 amp types faithfully model the amp sounds that guitarists and bassists seek. Each of the 23 cabinet effects that reproduce the acoustic and structural resonances of a speaker cabinet were newly created especially for the PX4D.The creative possibilities are limitless - you can even combine a guitar amp with a bass cabinet.

In addition to standards such as compressor and wah, there are numerous realistic modeling effects that deliver a versatile range of tones. Pickup modeling transforms the sound of a single-coil pickup into that of a humbucking pickup (or vice versa), a guitar (bass) synth that lets you play synth sounds, an intelligent pitch shifter that automatically harmonizes with your playing, a talk effect that produces the impression that your guitar is speaking, a slow attack effect that creates violin-type swells, a feedback effect that allows feedback playing techniques that are normally possible only at high volumes, a rotary speaker that changes speed in response to your picking or fingering dynamics, a fretless bass effect that simulates the distinctive sound of a fretless bass, and many more are ready for your use.

200 Programs To Select
The PX4D provides 100 preset programs and the PX4A provides 50 preset programs, covering a broad range of styles, including sounds of famous artists. You can also create and store 100 of your own user programs.

Amp-like Ease of Operation
The user interface is knob-based for intuitive and easy use. Frequently-used parameters, such as the amp type, have their own independent dial, and the tone controls can also be adjusted as easily as on a guitar or bass amp simply by turning the knobs. The value dial makes it a simple matter to adjust amp types and parameter values. There's also a TAP button that you can use to set delay times or the tempo of a rhythm pattern.

100 Rhythm and Bass Patterns
The one hundred built-in rhythm patterns cover a broad range of styles that include rock, jazz, funk, blues and dance music. The PCM sounds used in these patterns produce realistic accompaniments that are fun to play along with. There are even Bass patterns that let you specify the key chord, so you can practice any style of music while listening to a full rhythm and bass line. Since you can use the effect programs at the same time as these patterns, this is a great way to practice your picking, improve your rhythm or develop your sense of pitch. You can also make Chain Pattern settings to combine up to sixteen different rhythm patterns.

Built-in Phrase Trainer
You can record up to 30 seconds from an audio source such as a CD, MD or MP3, and play it back repeatedly (looped) at a slower speed without changing the pitch. This is a great way to learn complex or rapid passages by ear, since you'll be able to hear the phrase slowly. You can also record a phrase that you play yourself along with the built-in rhythm and bass accompaniment, and then practice soloing over the top of it.

Combine Your Playing with an External Source
You can connect a CD player or another external audio source to the AUX IN jack, and use the Key Transpose function to change the pitch of the song upward or downward by as much as one octave. The PX4D also contains a Bass Canceller function that erases the bass sound from an external audio source so that you can play and hear your bass along with the song.

Semitransparent LCD for Superb Visibility
The LCD that displays the names of effects and programs is backlit so you can read it easily even on a dimly lit stage. Immediately recognizable icons represent numerous functions. The display uses a semitransparent LCD so that characters and icons are lit up when backlit, providing a distinctive appearance. The unit also comes with a strap holder so that you can attach it directly to your instrument strap.

"Royal Albert Hall or The Filmore, and Nearly Any Guitar Sound in Your Shirt Pocket. Korg PX4 Pandora."
Feature:
Features. Great instant Amp Modeling with big thumb wheel to turn your selected sound into monster or lullaby. Wish it had more record room at high bit rate, but it still lets you laydown a lot of measures to jam to. That's another thing I like, the jam with yourself or to external inputs. Another great thing is the Bass progression that plays in the Key you select in the Jam feature and rhythm. Lots of other features as in product description. Batteries last, but less with the excellent backlight display. I always use wall power unless at a friends and then batteries last about 6 hours without backlight. Negatives: Control button/knob labeling text too tiny.(I used a WhiteOut pen to label some knobs more clearly. Needs standout mark on G/T/B/V knobs to see where they are set. Clip on carrier is secure, but when put on guitar strap, you can't see the display without twisting it around. Clip on will slide onto waist band or belt but presents the same display problem. (I use a big black office paper clip to hold mine to the edge of a music stand, and leave it there. And I have put velcro on back of PX4 clip-on and the face of my music stand. This arrangement is quite secure. This is brings us to one thing that would be great for this baby... a jack to accept a footswitch to scroll the presets.

Quality:
Made Well? It is plastic, but I swear to you, I have dropped it from table top level at least 10 times and a couple of times it hit the floor when the music stand fell over face first. The case has even popped open. Each time I have thought OMG this has to be the end, but unbelieveablly it keeps right on performing exactly as it did when new. It is beyoud rugged. My only disappointment is the slide selector switches on the sides for Hi/Lo pickup and Off/On/Backlight. These gave up after about a year, but were prob. do to the above mentioned belly flops. I just leave the pickup set at Hi for Humbuckers...and a toothpick or push pin works on the other slider.

Value:
If you are a performer and need hand free switching of presets, this isn't the tool. But for home and garage players this is a very powerful tool and really makes one guitar sound like one thousand other setups. Amps, Cabinets, Pick-ups, Miles of effects, Rhythm,Bass,Tuner, lots more.

Desirability:
I'm not much on needing the coolest look, I want performance and the PX4 has it in a cool package about the size of a cigarette pack.

Sound:
Playin through '74 Fender Twin Reverb, PeaveyBackStagePLus and Gretsch Electromatic. LP Studio and SG. Have only used the PX4 and Digitech RP100 which is fine, but the PX-4 is heads above it. The range of factory presets sound is better and easier to adjust to create your user presets. I've had the PX-4 about 3 years and only used the RP100 a couple of times since and I play at least 1 hour everyday. Take advantage of the Gain,Treble,Bass and Vol adjustments to trim in any of Presets when the venue accoustics change from where you normally set them up. Also there's easy access to clicking through the "change settings" (my term) on any preset, can alter the sound tiny or knock out the walls.

Ease of Use:
This baby has a lot of different levels of adjustment, but after just a little noodling around it mostly becomes automatic and easily adjusted on the fly. The RP-100 mentioned above drove me crazy trying to dial in what I wanted.

Support:
Contacted them about slide switches mentioned above. Helpful, steered me to supplier for parts, but cost+shipping wasn't worth it.

Overall:
If it dies, I will buy another immediately...with the hope Korg includes a footswitch in newer models.

"Good tool for practice"
Feature:
The built in bass and drum machine is quite nice. You can adjust volume, time, tempo, rhythm, and even the key that the bass is playing in. So you have an assortment of backing tracks to suit whatever guitar parts you are working on. The phase trainer is outstanding. My only issue with it is that if you record up to the maximum time (32 seconds), the compression used to maximize memory takes away too much from the sound. But recording a phrase in 16 or 8 second slices allows for better resolution. What I love most is the ability to slow down a phrase while not changing pitch. You can throw part of a guitar solo or lead on there in a 16 second loop, and drop the tempo up to 50% speed. This allows for a great way to analyze and learn those faster solos you are working on. Then slowly bring the speed up to 100% over the course of time. Works great.

Quality:
The plastic housing makes it seem as if it will break easily. I use mine only on the couch while practicing, so I don't abuse it. I do not think it would take a lot of punishment to ruin this little device.

Value:
It was worth every penny to me. I have made very good use of the phrase trainer.

Sound:
The sound is perfectly fine for usage as a practice headphone amp. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had absolutely no issue with noise with this using. It mixes the feed from the aux cable in perfectly well, so you can jam along with your favorite bands quite well, which is the main reason I bought it.

Ease of Use:
All of the settings and controls are pretty intuitive. The manual is a bit sparse, but it has not been a problem. It is very easy to configure your own tones if you aren't happy with the presets.

Support:
I haven't needed to deal with Korg on any issue.

Overall:
I do not think I will need to replace this unit. It does what I expected it would as a headphone / practice system.
