A Lot of Power, a Lot Less Heat

The JBL PRX series features JBL's patented Differential Drive Technology with ferrite drivers. This Differential Drive technology led to the creation of new ferrite magnets with less weight. This maximizes efficient power use, and leads to minimal heat gain with faster dissipation. At the heart of this unit is a recently-redesigned Class D amplifier that provides excellent power handling. The JBL PRX700 series speakers also read more come pre-equipped with a dbx Type IV limiter circuit, to ensure that dynamic peaks are smoothed out before they can clip or distort in a live situation.

Finely Constructed, Rock-Solid Wooden Cabinets

The tops of all PRX700 series enclosures are constructed from with 25mm sheets of poplar plywood that are uniquely strong given their light weight. The sides are made from 18mm sheets that ensure a cabinet with a great natural throw. They have absolutely no boxy or buzzy cross-resonance, even when you're pushing the volume all the way. The deep-cup tongue and groove joints in the cabinet ensure a cabinet that will ensure the rigors of transport. The cabinets are finished in JBL's own obsidian DuraFlex finish, while the speakers inside are protected with a dent-and-scratch-resistant 16 gauge steel. The M10 suspension points are constructed from 14 gauge steel that are rated to hold up to 1000 pounds each. Given that the PRX715 loudspeaker weighs in at a diminutive 48 pounds, you should have no trouble hanging these if you so desire!

I had previously been using a lower level Mackie Thump 12" and wanted a significant step up. I first bought a pair of EV ZLX15. I found that while they were a better build and definitely had more wiring options, they were prone to clipping at low levels and ran pretty hot. I returned those for the JBL PRX15. Problem solved. These speakers get VERY loud and will only clip when they've reached extreme levels, which is exactly what I needed. Add a sub or two and you have a top notch mobile system.
