By considering every element in each system and its contribution to the final application PRX500 redefines high performance portable PA. Through design, PRX500 delivers the power, performance and simplicity you need in a package that's been designed to move.

The 2-way 15 in.; the most recognizable form of portable PA loudspeakers, the perfect balance between size and performance. The PRX515 truly is an exception; it's smaller and lighter without compromising on performance. For applications requiring full bandwidth sound reproduction, using only a pair of speakers, the PRX515 delivers the optimum balance. For live music, recorded music playback and speech the user has the option of tailoring the EQ, 'flat' for speech intelligibility, and 'boost' for enhanced bass and crisp highs in recorded music playback. A microphone can be directly connected to the speaker input for quick on-the-fly PA applications.

The PRX515 is a self-powered, lightweight two-way loudspeaker system capable of delivering a very high level of performance. The PRX515 is comprised of a 380 mm (15 in) 265F Differential Drive woofer, a 2408H 37.5 mm (1.5 in) annular polymer diaphragm, neodymium compression driver mounted to a 70 degree by 70 degree horn, all driven by a multi-channel Crown International Class-D digital power amplifier. A propriety DSP chip is at the core of a fully featured input section, providing user selectable system EQ, protection, input sensitivity selection, cross-over functionality, dynamic limiting and discrete component optimization.

The enclosure is constructed of quality plywood and coated in JBL's rugged DuraFlex finish. Durable polypropylene end-caps add extra protection for the cabinet. An integrated pole mount on the bottom endcap enables easy deployment. The CNC machined steel grille wraps around the sides of the enclosure so there are no protruding lips on the front of the box to create acoustical interference. The grille is also lined with an acoustically transparent foam to provide additional driver protection.

The amplifier input panel offers XLR or 1/4 inch jack compatibility and a sensitivity switch provides extra flexibility, making it possible to connect literally any sound source without using a mixer. Signal present and overload lights indicate the system status and assist in setting the optimum level, via the level control knob. zZounds is an authorized dealer of JBL products.

Sound: The sound is great. The speakers fill any room that I have used them in. I have used them in a gym where the acoustics are horrible. They still sound amazing. I have owned them for 6 months and am buying a second set. I use a 31 band EQ to sharpen the sound some, although it is not necessarily needed. Overall, nice rich, full sound. Ease of Use: Not much to them to screw up. I really like that the inputs are 1/4" or xlr, I have worked with other speakers that do not 1/4" inputs and they are a pain sometimes. Quality: Quality is good overall. The grills are a bit of concern. I have been very careful so mine are still perfect. I have had other JBLs though and the grills had similar issues. Value: Definitely the best bang for your buck. The Wow Factor: Looks amazing. The glowing logo is a nice touch. Best looking active speakers that I have seen.

Sound: Sounds great for hard hitting music, but in between music announcements do seem to distort due to much bass. There is a swith for bass boost or not, but I can not switch each speaker for each time I need to make an announcement. The speakers truley kick hard otherwise. Feature: No bags to protect the enclosures. No matter what I tried, I could not effectively or in a timely fashion protect the grills. I used four inches of foam, but still bent the grill on a $1,000,00 speaker when transporting in my van. The speakers truley kick hard otherwise. Ease of Use: see above. VERY LIGHT which is great.
