You can adjust the volume of each string individually by tweaking recessed controls on the read more back of your SRF700 Portamento's body.

Five-Piece Maple/Walnut Neck

As tonewoods, maple and walnut work together to resonate an evenly balanced tone. Walnut is a slightly denser wood, exhibiting a similar sound to rosewood by pushing the mids and lows. Maple, on the other hand, brings in a rounded brightness that'll add a little snap to the mix. The neck runs the length of the body, and is topped by an extended "30-fret" panga panga fingerboard that lets you fingers travel all the way up to the neck pickup for even more tonal expression.

Ibanez SRF700 Portamento Fretless Bass

If you're looking for a bass tool to enrich your creative palette, The Ibanez Bass Workshop may have built your next instrument. This product group focuses on combining unusual concepts with the bass-building virtuosity on which Ibanez has built its reputation.

For some players the electric bass is a compromise of convenience--a substitute for the upright bass they have to leave at home. To those players Ibanez says: "Compromise no longer!" The SR Portamento Fretless offers bassists the comfort of their legendary SR, combined with electronics that deliver a very near-to-upright sonic experience.

This cutting edge tonal flexibility is the product of two sets of extraordinary pickups: Bartolini MK1-4's play the role of "traditional" electric bass pickups, while the Portamento's Custom bridge contains the "magic" of AeroSilk Piezo system that work with flat wound strings to provide a sense of "air" to the ear that characterizes true upright sound.

A 5pc Maple/Walnut thru-neck design helps fortify the sense of an acoustic "body" for the player, and an extended fingerboard give plenty of playroom to complete the Portamento's overall upright acoustic sensibilities.

Features:

- Mahogany wing body
- 5pc Maple/Walnut thru-neck design
- Extended Panga Panga fingerboard
- Bartolini MK1-4 Pickups
- AeroSilk Piezo system

I think I'm in love! I finally purchase the SRF700 and it was perfect right out of the box. I only had to adjust the piezos a bit to balance the volume across the strings, but it's so easy to do instructions aren't even necessary. Having never laid hand on a fretless bass, i was really surprised how easy it is to play, and to play in tune. The fret markers on the side of the bass are more than enough to help you know where you are, and I like the classy, more traditional, look of the lineless fretboard. My family owns a music store (stringed instruments) and there were lots of oohs and ahhs about the look; everyone said it was 'really pretty'. I love the through-neck.. it's smooth and fast like all SRs, and has really nice sustain, which kinda goes against it ever sounding exactly like a string bass, but it has its own sound which is very nice. The bartolinis give you a really wide range of sounds, but the piezos are still my favorite. This is the bass I want to pick up and play all the time. I wonder if I'll even touch my SR800 again... a great value, great price to become my go-to bass. I doubt you'll regret the purchase if you've been jonesin' for a fretless. I really love Ibanez bass. It's really light-weight too like all their SRs.
