If you've been saving up for a pro-grade 5-string working bass, we've got good news: you don't have to wait anymore. Professional players and gear reviewers alike have been singing the praises of the SR Premium series since its introduction. Crafted in the Ibanez Premium facility in Indonesia, the SR1805E shares many of the high-end appointments of the much-respected Prestige line. This extraordinary attention to detail manifests itself in features like super-smooth hand-crimped frets, and the Ibanez Mono-Rail bridge, an ingeniously designed unit that kills off unwanted sympathetic vibrations while isolating and optimizing the vibration of the plucked string.

Atop the SR1805E's Mahogany body is an exhibition of excellence in woodcraft. Inside the Rosewood "wings," a layer of Walnut emerges, complemented by center strips of flamed Maple and Wenge. The instrument has a silky, vintage, flat natural finish that brings out the quality of the wood, and the smooth, solid, easy playing feeling of a five-piece Wenge/Bubinga neck. Abalone fretboard inlays complete the visual statement. Abalone fretboard inlays complete the visual statement.

In spite of this impressive hit list of exotic materials, this Premium bass stays true to the original SR concept: being surprisingly light in weight--a noticeable contrast to the instrument's thick sonic character. That big, bold, tonal personality is due largely to a pair of Nordstrand "Big Single" pickups--the kind well acquainted with boutique read more instruments. No matter what musical texture is desired, the EQB IIISC 3-Band EQ, with EQ bypass and mid-frequency switch, will get there fast.

Excellent! I have been playing Ibanez 5 strings over 20 years. This is the best one so far. The best thing to me is the sound. It's very versatile, you can get a lot of different sounds. I play in a blues band and a metal band and other members of both bands tell me how good it sounds. Plus my ears tell that. Excellent fit and finish, and its beautiful. I was apprehensive about a bolt on, all the others have been neck through. Have no worries, it's fantastic. zZounds is VERY easy to work with and corrected my mistake without question (ordered the wrong one the first time). Highly recommended.

Musical Background:

Playing 51 years. Accordion, trombone, and bass. Bass for the last 43 years.
